Infection date and initial symptoms

After downloading a custom database file for Football Manager 2015, I noticed that my default search engine on Chrome had been changed to 'http://yamdex.net', and that 'the setting is enforced by the administrator' so I cannot change it, despite my account being the only one on the computer, and having administrator privileges. Having looked around, I presume that I inadvertently downloaded 3rd party adware with my download, but don't know how to remove it.
Current issues and symptoms
The symptoms have persisted despite trying several methods. Each time I open Chrome and type in the top box, it redirects me to 'yamdex.net'. I also notice high CPU usage at idle.
Steps taken in order to remove the infection
Ran full system scan via Norton Internet Security and Norton Power Eraser when the problem was first noticed. Two high risk objects were quarantined: aspackage.exe (SONAR) and cashm_c2pc_installmonst (Suspicious.Cloud.9). Looking around on internet forums I discovered that the problem might be adware/malware, so I downloaded SpyHunter 4 and ran a scan which returned 99 threats, which it then fixed. I looked for suspicious processes in task manager but didn't find any, and looked for suspicious software to uninstall. I used regedit to look into the registry and found two suspicious-looking keys: a). HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Google/Chrome/Extensions/iikflkcanblccfahdhdonehdalibjnif and b). HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Google/Chrome/Extensions/bbjllphbppobebmjpjcijfbakobcheof . I'm not very computer literate so didn't know what to do about these! I tried deleting them but they seemed to re-appear. I downloaded AdwCleaner and ran a scan, which found 3 things, one of which matched the reg key a). mentioned above. AdwCleaner froze while trying to complete the scan. I then did a further scan which I've attached to this post. I couldn't run an FRST scan as, ironically, Norton says it's unsafe, and I don't know how to override that and download it anyway. A lot of help sites showed going into the settings of Chrome, going to extensions and deleting dodgy-looking extensions, but there are none when I look. Windows Software Removal was also unhelpful.

That being told, if any evidence of illegal OS, software, cracks/keygens or any other will be revealed, any further assistance will be suspended. If you are aware that there is this kind of stuff on your machine, remove it before proceeding!
The same applies to any use of P2P software: uTorrent, BitTorrent, Vuze, Kazaa, Ares... We don't provide any help for P2P, except for their removal. All P2P software has to be uninstalled or at least fully disabled before proceeding!

Scan with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatibale with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them.
Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.


  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

Hey Argus, thank you very much for your reply! Here are the FRST.txt and Addition.txt files. I had to turn Norton AntiVirus and AntiSpyware off to get FRST to download, should I keep them off?

Scan with ZOEK

Please download ZOEK by Smeenk and save it to your desktop (preferred version is the *.exe one)
Temporary disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware protection - instructions here.

  • Right-click on
    icon and select
    Run as Administrator to start the tool.
  • Wait patiently until the main console will appear, it may take a minute or two.
  • In the main box please paste in the following script:
    Code:
    createsrpoint;
    autoclean;
    emptyalltemp;
    bitsadmin /reset /allusers;b
    ipconfig /flushdns;b
  • Make sure that Scan All Users option is checked.
  • Push Run Script and wait patiently. The scan may take a couple of minutes.
  • When the scan completes, a zoek-results logfile should open in notepad.
  • If a reboot is needed, it will be opened after it. You may also find it at your main drive (usually C:\ drive)

Fix with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

This fix was created for this user for use on that particular machine.

Running it on another one may cause damage and render the system unstable.
Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop:

Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!

  • Right-click on
    icon and select
    Run as Administrator to start the tool.
    (XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
  • Press the Fix button just once and wait.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  • When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.

The following will implement some post-cleanup procedures:


Download DelFix by Xplode and save it to your desktop.
  • Run the tool by right click on the
    icon and Run as administrator option.
  • Make sure that these ones are checked:
    • Remove disinfection tools
    • Purge system restore
    • Reset system settings
  • Push Run and wait until the tool completes his work.
  • All tools we used should be gone. Tool will create an report for you (C:\DelFix.txt)
The tool will also record healthy state of registry and make a backup using ERUNT program in %windir%\ERUNT\DelFix
Tool deletes old system restore points and create a fresh system restore point after cleaning.
