App Review ZoneAlarm Extreme Security Next Gen 2024 - With Malware Tests

It is advised to take all reviews with a grain of salt. In extreme cases some reviews use dramatization for entertainment purposes.
Product name
ZoneAlarm Extreme Security Next Gen 2024
Installation (rating)

User interface (rating)
5.00 star(s)
Accessibility notes
ZoneAlarm emulation detects stuff like phishing pdf documents, simple PowerShell keyloggers and many others. Stuff that nobody else would detect. At the same time, anti-phishing with real time analysis blocks more pages than big brands like Norton ever will.

Components like Anti-Bot and Behavioural Guard block advanced attacks, the behavioural blocking is based around Mitre tactics and techniques and not just around profiles, like SONAR or ATD (Bitdefender). The level of cleanup after a threat is amazing too, if you have a look at the forensic reports.

But ZoneAlarm removed the same amount of malware and blocked more phishing than them. Yet, it got 3-3.5 when they got 5. And only an incompetent person can state that ZoneAlarm with business-grade emulation will block the same or less malware than a consumer AV, in an official review.
I was not referring to PC Mag review. I have not read it. I was talking in general.

This is a bold statement. AVG/Avast have strong records when it comes to protection. Both signatures and behavioural protection. I do agree they come bundled with bloatware, but this has nothing to do with protection level.
AvG, AvASt, Norton is the quote of the Russian guy from Armageddon

Avg engine, avast engine or Norton engine all made by Gen Digital running a different skin.

Having two small kids, I actually don't mind any security product coming with parental controls :alien:

Anyway most parental control software I've seem on home products were bad, incomplete or easy to bypass, although useful in reporting anything suspicious to the parents. In the end I just gave up on parental control software and just filter inappropriate content by setting DNS on their devices and restricting their accounts.

File and registry cleaners on the other hands are really unnecessary even if you think you need them and when badly coded they will do more harm than good.

Backup may be bloat or not depending if you already have some other backup solution. For many the backup solution in their security software may be the first time they even have contact with the concept of backup or with software able to perform it.

What may be bloat to some, because they prefer a pure security solution or already use a 3rd party to provide that function may be the first time a consumer even has contact with a password manager or backup solution. The reality of the average consumer is far from the reality of people who understand technology and how computer security works.

Personally I don't use any of the other functions home solutions usually implement, like backup, password managers, etc., because I already use other software for that or find it useless like file and registry cleaners but I don't think all extra functions should automatically be considered bloat if it is included in a home product, even more if it's an optional download, like in Avast or Kaspersky.

A password manager or back up solution do provide some extra safety to a home user, after all.

And before anyone jumps to conclusions I don't think every home product should include a password manager, parental control, etc. It's a security product first and should be judged by that alone. But I also don't think it's bloat if those functions are offered. And if they are, those should be judged as well... I can think of few things more dangerous than an unsafe password manager.

Does anyone know how to remove the ZoneAlarmNG welcome screen on startup?
Please ensure that you are downloading the correct product from the ZoneAlarm website directly. Ensure that you have your license key ready to enter it when required.
In addition, at the end of the setup file name, you can add _licenseKey.

E.g. setup file name is ZANG.exe. Rename that to ZANG_xxxxxx.exe, where xxxxxxx is your key. This will automatically install and activate correct product.

Hello, thank you for your answers, this morning, no more welcome screen . Everything is fine, ZANG has version 4.3.260.19915. The memory usage amounts in total (Check point process + ZoneAlarm) to about 680 MB, CPU use low. The computer responds well, everything is fluid, much more than during my first test in February 2024. The license was accepted without problem and I stay with this product.

I am too chicken crap to try it again. I don't want to waste few hours reimagining my system. But yeah its tempting. The beta was slow as heck and the uninstall was filthier than streets after carnival

I have repeatedly read about problems uninstalling ZoneAlarm Extreme Security NextGen. Do the problems still exist? Does uninstalling leave a lot of data behind?
It does leave a lot behind and problems were going as far as not unregistering from Windows Security Centre, not allowing other anti-malware software to run. I clean it manually but now there is a new uninstall tool that can be used.

I used to uninstall it with Revo/HiBit at one point.
