This email poses as an automated maintenance notice from the recipient’s mail provider. An observed version uses a subject such as “Server Congestion for [email address]” and claims inactive accounts are being removed to free storage capacity.
The recipient is told to click “VERIFY YOUR EMAIL” to keep the address. The message may not name a specific provider because its generic wording allows the same campaign to target Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, workplace webmail, and privately hosted domains.
Server congestion is used as a technical-sounding excuse
Deleting customer accounts is not a normal response to temporary server congestion. Providers manage capacity through infrastructure, storage quotas, published inactivity policies, and authenticated notices inside the account.
