When I looked to find a cause to the main problem (loss of storage space) I used a program to help
me in doing so and I have been focused these past few days since the cryptowall incident!

Could you delete all the files in Content.ie5 in two different directories?

Users\account name\appdata\local\microsoft\windows\temporary internet files\content.ie5
9 files in content.ie5
Users\account name\appdata\local\microsoft\windows\temporary internet files\low\content.ie5
32 files in content.ie5

The second problem I'm having has to do with the volume mixer settings. They keep getting changed
when I unmute it goes back to mute on several volume settings.

Third has to do with browsing history the default was 20 days and now the settings stay on 0 days
and I change the days and they change back to 0.

I also want to point out that both Content.ie5 folders are not visible, which means they are
shown as transparent.

Run as Administrator to start the tool.
(XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).

  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  • When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.

I did produce the fixlog and yesterday I thought the content.ie5 fix would nip it in the bud, the problem I have with constant loss of hard drive space, but I'm losing more space even though the content.ie5 fix has stopped the problem momentarily. Is there any way you can figure out if there is spyware or a virus in my system that's causing constant loss of space? I want to try to keep this thread open by posting and I will continue to remain active in the midst of this problem. I almost forgot to mention that content.ie5 has produced 4 new files and \low\content.ie5 also has 4 new files. I know its normal for there to be files in content.ie5 but I don't know if they are supposed to grow in size. To me, I don't know if that's normal, but the files in both content.ie5 locations are just visible and they aren't showing signs of growth.

I also included in this post FRST.txt and Addition.txt. Please do not clear out my browsing history!

Ok, running combo-fix gave my hard drive a little bit of a boost so that's good. I forgot to mention in thhe past that browsing history is still at 20 days in the settings so that's also good. The volume mixer is also doing better, about 98% close no problems in audio!

System is clean.

Download DelFix by Xplode and save it to your desktop.
  • Run the tool by right click on the
    51a5ce45263de-delfix.png
icon and Run as administrator option.
  • Make sure that these ones are checked:
    • Remove disinfection tools
    • Purge system restore
    • Reset system settings
  • Push Run and wait until the tool completes his work.
  • All tools we used should be gone. Tool will create an report for you (C:\DelFix.txt)
The tool will also record healthy state of registry and make a backup using ERUNT program in %windir%\ERUNT\DelFix
Tool deletes old system restore points and create a fresh system restore point after cleaning.

Greeting!

I gotta ask you how's your c drive (at home) or how was the c drive elsewhere. Are you periodically losing a little hard drive space or is your hard drive completely stabilized?

;)

I think I finally might have nipped it in the bud, the problem pertaining to this dreaded constant loss of space! I will be checking my hard drive from time to time!

I enclosed FRST.txt and Addition.txt because there is a slight problem ONLY in Internet Explorer and that problem is with the audio. I tried 11/8/14 to tune in to a radio program and didn't have sound, so I tried in device manager disabled the high definition audio in DM then I rebooted (by cursor) afterwards enabled and that didn't work.

I do appreciate the winsxs information.
