We've released APIVoid Browser Protection, a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox designed to improve your browsing safety:

It includes features such as blocking suspicious TLDs, internationalized domains (IDN), IP-based URLs, non-standard ports, and domains from free hosting or dynamic DNS providers.

It can also block downloads of potentially dangerous file types like .lnk, .wsf, .pif, .scr, .hta, and more (on Chrome, it can also block direct downloads).

You can define custom rules to block specific TLDs, domains, or file types (e.g., .exe, .dll), view blocked events, and exclude trusted domains.

All settings can be easily exported and imported across browsers or devices.

No data is sent externally, it only periodically updates the local protection rules from our website.

AI recommended asked should I install. "Short answer: Yes — 1.APIVoid Browser Protection is a strong, lightweight, privacy‑respecting addition to your security stack, and it aligns extremely well with your preference for low‑bloat, conflict‑free tools. 2.Blocks phishing domains, malicious URLs, suspicious TLDs, IP‑based URLs, free‑hosting/DDNS abuse,3.This is a major win because Windows Defender’s SmartScreen doesn’t always catch script‑based droppers.4.Extremely lightweight (<5 MB RAM)No data collection. going to give it a try also

@simmerskool

We left it unchecked for now because we wanted to gather some feedback first.

It can be enabled for additional protection, just share here if you notice any URLs being blocked (should be rare).

On the next versions we'll evaluate if enable it by default.

@Dave Russo

Yes no Edge version for now, we should add it soon.

I already ran into a problem ,it blocked site(that sells replacement parts for car keys) anyway I shut it first(still blocked) , I really didn't want to tweak(site could be phishing I guess) but I always use virtual card any way going to remove for now and try the safe to open extention(the block didn't happen until I hit pay

What was the rule that blocked the website? Such as, was the "Block suspicious TLDs" option?

In any case, you can click the button "Exclude domain" and it will be excluded from the block rules.

Suspicious TLDs are .xyz, .top, .pro, etc and some legit sites may have these TLDs, in that case just exclude the domain.

The products developed by @NoVirusThanks are very good and reliable. I’ve been familiar with them for a few years now. Although the developer is trustworthy, I’m going to wait for the extension to mature a bit more. Based on the overview and the features the extension offers, it looks quite promising. In Chrome, I use Enhanced Protection, which alerts me to proceed with caution when trying to add the extension APIVoid Browser Protection. If you're reading this note, there's no need to worry. If you see this notification when trying to add the extension, it's because it's a new extension and Enhanced Protection is enabled in your Chrome. However, if you're using Standard Protection in Chrome or any other Chromium-based browser, this "Proceed with caution" notification won't appear. ;)

Hi,
AI is remarkably inept when you ask it a “human” question.
However, it excels when it comes to comparing x to y.

If you want to ask AI the right question, you must first feed it your security configuration, then have it analyze the extension and ask whether it will be useful to you from a privacy/security standpoint.
It’s even better if you have two AIs analyze the conclusions.(y);):)

Agreed

I drew my own conclusions as I've used this company for many years with other programs & is trusted, I checked the privacy on it & will decide whether to keep it on as to how effective it is, & so far so good, I have another extension doing similar things so... :rolleyes:

so it's like Malwarebytes browser guard in a way?
The only similarity is the blocking of often abused TLDs from websites. Other than that it is basically a tool to "harden" your browser. I don't know a better term for it. So it doesn't focus on detection of malicious and phishing sites like Malwarebytes Browser Guard does.

Will it be a non-free product when development is finished?
