By the way, rebranding is not limited to the software industry, even though it's common here. Just google 'rebranded cars' and be surprised of the amount of examples popping up.

Candy/Hoover/Baumatic Appliances virtually identical, some with different warranty periods yet the same products often simply re-badged - Some may buy one but not the other? It happens all the time with most products. The other day when I looked the Ashampoo product was more expensive with greater limitation on licencing, Emsisoft no brainer for me, after using their support a couple of times even more so, great company.

There is lots of rebranding in the computer market. A lot of components inside the PCs and laptops are manufactured by one company and the brand sells it in its own name. A lot of big brands actually don't manufacture anything.
