AVG AntiVirus Free - March 2021 Report
Due to the small number of samples used in this tests, you should take results with a grain of salt. We encourage you to compare these results with others and take informed decisions on what security products to use.

Not a good start for AVG.
I'd be surprised if many AVs caught some of these low prevalence samples. Even BBs are hit and miss. I'd be interested to see how many pick that sample up in a day or two. The most cautious approach with any AV is to wait a day or two after a download if in doubt/not in a rush. Almost every AV will catch any fast spreading samples after a couple days.

Nobody knows really about "prevalence" of samples, all comments about that are just guessing without any proof. Of course, we can always debate about probability how average home-users may be coming in touch with such malware but that is another story...

The first purpose of the Hub-Tests is to show how fast AVs reacting to any fresh hash of malware variants, some AVs doing better overall compared to other AVs, we just have to compare all monthly tests done by @harlan4096, he always testing different AVs, so everyone can see the difference between almost all AVs been tested at the end of the year.

Very good point. I for one appreciate the good work in the HUB, especially @harlan4096 and those who provide fresh samples.

How long does it generally take to add the sample to the block-list? Probably Avast/AVG will add it very quickly. :giggle::coffee:🍰

The most major AVs are always "in contact" to VirusTotal, it depends also on file-type how fast a sample will be added to signatures. Malware as .exe usually will be faster detected by almost all AVs compared to malicious scripts like .js, .vbs, etc.

For samples that can be determined quickly 15-20 minutes on average

Please let me/us know where you got this information from ? You meant this for Avast/AVG only ?
Or also any official statement from other companies like Kaspersky, BitDefender, Symantec, etc. ?

I am not sure what experience you have with sending samples, but I have plenty. Your favourite antivirus Trend Micro won't even allow you to send samples, you either have to go through support or they have to assign you a submission channel if you prove your submissions are worth it. Once submitted, it normally takes few hours, which is still quick. Trend Micro will not add samples at all, if they are not really malicious (example is SilentBuilder which doesn't work on Windows 10 due to anti-exploit features).

I have submitted samples to all companies and Norton themselves upon submission say that it might take up to 48 hours. It takes roughly that long to process samples for Bitdefender. Kaspersky has automated system and is as fast as Avast.
Trend Micro is not my favorite antivirus, I have no favorite, I use the one that best provides protection and performance to my system. If you are a fan of AVG, you even managed to get some users here to use it, talking about tests, AVG does not seem to be as good as you praise :p
