AVG is a well-known antivirus in the world of computer security.
Bought out by Avast in 2016 and part of the Gen company since 2019 (Norton, Avast/AVG, Avira, BullGuard) , the software struggles to find its identity as it is simply a copy of Avast.
Let's see how it fares.

User interface :
The interface is clearly an Avast clone!
Same typography, same operation, same shield.
But it's still quite sober and bright.

RAM consumption: This is mixed, but tends to be CPU-intensive.

Web protection: 7/7
AVG has blocked all malicious URLs.
One file almost got through but was blocked by AVG's anti-exploit shield!
3 URLs died, summer isn't helping URL research at the moment...

Fake crack : 1/1
AVG blocked the file directly with Cyber-Capture.

Malware Pack : Remaining 16 files out of 112.
AVG does a good job on analysis.
Several VBS and EXE files remain.
All the VBSs were blocked at runtime by AVG, I think they were known in the Avast Cloud.
Most of the remaining EXE files were defective and therefore could not be launched.
Only 1 file got through but caused no damage.

Final scan :
AVG : 0
Malwarebytes : 0
NPE : 0

Final opinion:

AVG is an excellent, solid and reliable protection package.
Based on Avast know-how, it offers highly effective protection with normal RAM consumption.
However, since it was bought out by Avast and now by Gen, I feel that AVG has lost its image, as it has become an identical copy of Avast!
The protection, ancillary tools and other features are the same...
Recommendable.

Thanks for the detailed review! It's insightful to see AVG's performance in various areas. The fact that AVG has maintained strong protection capabilities despite its identity crisis is commendable. It seems AVG Internet Security 2024 is a reliable choice for those prioritizing security and web protection.

Can you tell me why you think my test is "useless"?
Because AVG is Avast? AVG still exists, I've even noticed that AVG is losing its identity :)
Exactly AVG has lost its identity. Its IDP is now shared with Avast which has helped do better in Behavior protection. AVG has no USP right now and there is no reason why someone would prefer Avast over AVG and vice versa. I am not questioning your quality of the test but the relevance of the test.

Also i don't think it's a big deal that avg is losing its identity all security products change and update they're appearance overtime. Changes to the UI, more added features etc. The avg userbase probably looks at it as "ohh it's just a new version". No security product has the same UI for more then 3 years one way or another they all change over time. This is literally no different IMO.

Indeed, I have a fondness for AVG going back to its early days as a stand-alone company.

Do you think Norton would do just as well?
