Advice Request Best Antivirus for my Family

Please provide comments and solutions that are helpful to the author of this topic.
I have never really experienced getting the machine infected despite using the machine several hours every day, and I have used several antivirus programs over many years now. But I will admit that I suffer from the syndrome, "maybe some programs are better than the one I already use". Now I use AVG ultimate and it works very well for me. I have proton VPN so I use it without activating AVG's own VPN.

Am I missing something or did the OP specifically deny ESET as an option because it has no OS version? So humbly what does the cost of ESET have do do with the long lost question??
I think OP said Eset does not have iOS app so it's excluded. Since we are discussing about best AV for family, my point was priciest does not equate to being the best. I do like Eset for it's low resource but the pricing is too much for me compared to the AV competition.

MOMS… ESET is an antivirus for KIDS, and kids' stuff is pricey; hence, it's priced like toys! 😊
Well I wish I could argue but with all these settings… the existence of some just brings the question why… why are they even there. It’s perfect for kids to dive in this setup deep and get lost… for a few days. Eset has more settings than the whole Android system.

It’s not really what classifies as “parents-friendly”.

You can get a 1 year NOD32 license for $8 on certain sites. Well worth the money if you ask me and does not break the budget if your just looking for a MS AV for a kids laptop.

I don't like ESET and prefer Kaspersky for our kids. Currently, I'm using H_C along with CD and FH on their systems with no issues. I wanted to try McAfee because of the positive reviews. A friend here gave me a McAfee license. I was most interested in its parental control features. I tried the standalone version, which offered a free trial without payment details. However, I didn't like it. McAfee hasn't updated its parental control program since 2022. It had 11 processes running, which slowed down the system. I believe the parental control module in the new versions will be the same. I'm glad I didn't redeem the McAfee license and can safely return it.

Kaspersky with a third-party web protection extension

Kaspersky usually slows down web browsing, to speed up we have to disable encrypted scan, inject script and the extension. But doing all that completely disbles the web protection component of Kapersky, what setup do you recommend which provides enough web protection with no slow down in web browsing?

Install K extension.

For years I have used Kaspersky Internet Security/Standard with default settings and minimal tweaks without ever noticing slowdowns on HDD or SSD systems. Yeah, I turn on the "don't scan" encrypted connections feature. I disable safe money and extra features, and I accept less web security.

I'm currently using Kaspersky Standard with everything mentioned ON and experience no slowdowns whatsoever. I don't recommend disabling script injection as it messes up several other components. May I ask which browser are you using?

I am using F-Secure now and looking to replace it as it has become Avira clone. Many people on this forum have discussed this Kaspersky topic in the past, some links on this:

I wouldn't exactly call it a clone. The engine is more or less identical, but they have some pretty cool extra protection features. Like their banking protection, I don't think any other AV has the ability to disconnect remote access when visiting a banking website.

Does it though?

If it does, it's not noticeable? Or I've just become blind to it?

But these are two years old and there's no real evidence of numbers to go with it?
