Custom filters that I use: Frogeye First Party and Multi Party Trackers, EFF CookieBlockList, I don't care about cookies, Dandelions Annoyances, Adguard Tracking Protection (uBlock only!), AntiPayWall filters, BypassPaywall Filter, EU US most used ads & trackers networks (third-party blocking only), Fanboy's Enhanced Tracking List, ClearURLs for uBo (unofficial, uBlock Only!), OISD small.

*Edit* Oops thought you wanted uBlock Origin. Sorry. Ignored filters already included in Adguard.

Just stick with AdGuard Filters: sufficient, well-maintained, and low false positives.

I never add any filters to adguard (desktop or extension) I just activate the given (adguard) ones I need. As long as my surfing is fast enough for me I don't care if the filter list isn't the smallest possible.

This is my ad block set-up without DNS filtering. It's wokring like a charm for my needs. All filters are maintained by trustworthy people and frequently updated.

For Adguard for Desktop and Firefox, use the default settings, then tweak it slowly by adding more Adguard lists if popups show up. Do the same for the other sections. For anything else, you can use your user rules.

Also, I found out that with an AV that includes web protection, browsing is faster when I exclude Adguard in the AV and exclude the AV in Adguard. I also use the protocol DNS-over-QUIC for Adguard DNS.
