I dumped VLC years ago in favour of ALLPlayer 4.5.. much faster and best Player for Movies with or without subtitles.

and do not use Codec Packs, they are simply not necessary, and can be harmful at times. Microsoft themselves has warned about this.

Be sure where you download your softwares from. Sites like CNET, Softonic bundles adware along with the products, so stay safe. Always use an adblocker for your browser, and Softpedia is the best place to go to download softwares from. (make sure yo do use an adblocker)
