Anyone successfully tested metadefender chrome extension with Cent browser? It doesn't work on mine because there's no API key

Neither does it works on Chromium browser. No API key

Thanks

In 2017

We witness how Chrome performs well despite of privacy issues, since the main target concern of a user is speed and performance over customization (except extension support).

On all versions, Chrome managed to overcome Firefox numerous times on majority of categories so not a surprise if the engines of Chrome and Firefox remain same despite of improvements.

-------------

Opera on the other hand is a good alternative browser however in the Neon version where sometimes may suffer slowdown due to high resource usage.

Firefox is already behind in the track except in customized version (Cyberfox, WaterFox and etc) in terms of performance and reliability.

so I am a pure Chrome user but due to the high ram usage I just keep on changing my browsers to firefox or even opera but somehow I land back to chrome.I have read so much about the cent browser so gonna give it a try and check to see if it is way better than what I tried previously in the past.

Yes, this was (one of) my problem(s) as well with Chrome, high memory usage. Configured Cent accordingly and no more memory problems :)

Care to share?

Is Opera any different from Chrome outside the obvious and apparent ones?

Share what exactly? My settings or my problems with Chrome?

So:
1. Don't know why, my biggest problem was some webpages not loading properly, one of them being my client's web interface for a server app that uses a lot of java, used for medical imaging (communication with medical imaging devices/management etc). Rarely, Chrome would even crash with these pages. I often said to myself it has to be some development issue with the app itself, forcing Chrome to misbehave. But, why is it working with Cent just fine? Also, other pages that load strangely (most of the times they load just fine) but sometimes will load only text, stuff arranged oddly in the page, a few refreshes are needed to fix this (in chrome), and i am not talking about infected websites. As of yet, no such things happened with Cent.
2. Lots of settings in Cent are exposed in the "Settings" area, where in Chrome, you had to literally dig for many of them in chrome://about/ and from there.. well... pick an option
3. Missing or hidden features, like "Save to temp & Open", "mute", tab options like "2x click to close", mouse gestures, super drag, loading whatever in a new tab, new incognito tab without a new window etc; yes, you can use extensions, but it's a lot less annoying not to get alerted all the time by extension updates
4. Memory: i only ticked "purge memory after 5 mins" on one my slower PCs; don't know if this is the single reason, but memory is optimized and it works a lot faster than Chrome; also the "lazy session loading" is a nice addition

In short, these are the differences i noticed. But most importantly, no more crashes! :)

This is true for everything. But i certainly hope not all of them are being developed by crazy hackers with a deathwish :p There are tools to test some of the security features of your browser, also a good idea is to fire up wireshark and check the traffic. If everything passed and you still woke up without a fb account and all your money was spent over night in several online casinos, well, something might have got horribly wrong... get ready to make the hacker's wish come true :)

Opera is basically just basic with the inbuilt add-ons that can stop blockers but apart from that its fast and smooth but don't trust it so much because it was brought by a Chinese company
Opera browser sold to a Chinese consortium for $600 million
Was wondering if Opera is more efficient/performant/less resource-hungry than Chrome seeing they're based on the same base and Google is no slouch.
@Amelith Nargothrond Was just curious what happened from the same reasons as above.

I'm trying to move away from Google. And yes it is also true that not all chromium-based browsers are created equal.

These Chromium-based browsers have some built-in advantages over the Chrome browser in that some have better privacy implementation (like disabling connection to Google servers), have better ads and scripts control, use less memory, have built-in VPN/proxy, better tab/download/bookmark management, different UI layout, more tweak options, DNS encryption etc.

However, they also have their disadvantages like no automatic update for some, have no extension support except for those built-in or with limited extension support, slow version update etc. Also, none will be able to surf as fast as Chrome if they are not using the default Google search engine. Google search results is also more relevant than other search engines.

Since Chromium-based browsers are forks of Chromium many are usually 1 or 2 versions behind the stable Chromium release. Chrome is always at the forefront of stable Chromium update. On the contrary, Iridium is behind stable Chromium by 3 versions probably due to its strong privacy implementation. Browsers behind the current Chromium (Iridium, UC Browser etc) will also be behind on security updates.

In the selection of Chromium-based browsers note that Chromium releases a new major version around every six weeks or so. As a consequence, the browsers based on it are being updated almost as fast with new features, functions, fixes and tweaks. Although a few browsers stood out in performance wise, it really comes down to whether the browser in question has an appealing feature set that will likely decide whether it’s right for you.

So I just kicked Chrome out of my system and replaced with Chromium (with no sync, no WebRTC and no widevine)

Cent browser is started by a small group of chinese developers. I find it provides much better privacy when combined with ScriptSafe and I have it on my system too.

Its just in between of firefox and chrome in terms of performance, less ram usage and the animation of how the interface acts is very smooth to work on for a long period of time.

Cyberfox because of the incredible number of addons and ability to modify the UI, but switched to Waterfox while retaining everything else.

Out of curiosity, only a vote for Edge.
I think it is a great browser, now with the ability to add some extension like uBlock Origin and quite secure because it works in Windows 10 as an application and not as a program, locked up inside of its own sandbox.
