Google is an extremely politicized corporation, and I want to have as little as possible to do with them. (What a shame they've got YouTube.) I want to get off GMail. (Actually I only use it as a secondary email. I prefer a freestanding application for my primary email.)

So what's a good replacement from a company that respects privacy much more than Google? For now I need one that's XP-compatible, which rules out the Pale Moon email..

what's your thought about Tutanota

I posted earlier. The lack of email search, the lack of any spam protection for security reasons can be an annoyance. They degraded their service to AES128 for some unknown reason. Also there is a sort of backdoor to access accounts if you lost your password. Basically you create a new account, register it as paid, then assign that account as an alias to your paid one, all without the password to the lost account. The developer showed me that 'backdoor' after I pretended to lose access to a critical account and begged him to find a way in. So that also concerns me. Otherwise, I think it's a decent service for longer duration throw away emails.

Dude, have you though about making your own email server. Some domains are free. You only need a computer to act as a server.
