no, it is a realtime simple AV that monitor the system and automatically does scans.

The site says on demand it doesn't mention realtime. Also I'm pretty sure Bitdefender free has always been on demand only.

This free antivirus software download is an on-demand virus scanner, which is best used in a system recovery or forensics role. If you are on an "always-on" Internet connection, we strongly advise you to consider using a more complex antivirus solution.

if you pay attention on the screenshots, you have a shield , means RT.

btw, have a thread on Wilders : http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?p=2161512#post2161512 that says it even has a Behavior Analysis

It's just strange the site says it's an on demand scanner, perhaps it's just their way of getting you to buy the paid product. Who knows.

If it does have realtime protection then it's a very good share. Maybe good to run alongside a solid firewall.

Have you read anything about it being run alongside another AV?

I understand that but from what I've read it's cloud based and there's a few cloud AV's that can play along with other AV's. take wsa for instance it's an AV on it's own but it can run happily with other AV'S, so can kingsoft!

Ok thanks Umbra and thanks for the share.

The first part of that reply was for Spywar just to save confusion.

btw, we know Bit Defender to ask you to uninstall other products, so i suppose it is not compatible, the opposite would be nice.

1. BAV Free is "heavy" for the system.
2. High consumption of RAM.
3. Windows slow start.
4. Great Tafficlight.
5. Poor detection of the malware packages (MalwareLab forum.safegroup.pl)

How does it work on your computer?

Well I did a test run on my laptop alongside CIS 6. Luckily it didn't ask me to remove CIS.
The resource usage was not bad at all even though it was running alongside CIS. But the surfing was completely affected, worse than what happened with BDIS 2012 version. I couldn't even open my homepage. So I uninstalled it. Resource usage by its two processes is shown below.
