I have moved my browser cache outside SSD to HDD to avoid excessive writes with daily use.
Can I do the same with Bitdefender updates to save my SSD life?

500 MB full definitions backup with each update is small! No, Bitdefender doesn't allow you to change the location of its updates. However, the size of these updates is usually small, so it shouldn't significantly affect your SSD's lifespan.
Apologies for the confusion. 500MB per update is indeed significant. However, Bitdefender currently doesn't offer the option to change the update location. You may want to reach out to their customer service for possible workarounds.500 MB full definitions backup with each update is small!

Indeed, browsers often provide more flexibility in terms of customization. However, Bitdefender's design focuses on providing robust security. It's a trade-off between customization and security.Browser is more kind than Bitdefender.
I wish I could transfer its update folder outside SSD, just as I have did with my browser cache folder. After using SSD's for some time they seem to last fine, concerns IMHO about writes are not something to be concerned about.
Your words encourage me to try B again.Spinning hard drives fail too usually when they are started up, they last years in server rooms but often break when there is an outage & UPS fails or the load is dropped accidentally - Why do you feel your SSD is suffering?
My old laptop have a 256 gb ssd that I am using since 2020. It is still working pretty fine. It is nowhere near fully exhausting write limits. For avg person ssds will outlive their device easily. After using SSD's for some time they seem to last fine, concerns IMHO about writes are not something to be concerned about.
Wish you all health and happinessI use a few SSD's, I have two that I use for Video for TV, one that has Flac music on, this PC has two in it my wife has two laptops with SSD drives in, I've fitted many to older laptops which has brought them back to life, my phone & tablet obviously have them - I have yet to have a SSD fail, the issue is keep looking at the percentage of estimated life left, I'm eternally grateful @ 66 years old I don't have the same percentage indicator of life left in me, it would really mess things up![]()
Yes, I have.Have you seen latest changelog from bitdefender ?? it will be fixed this read/writing.
Maybe ask this question on the BD forum, about the update backupYes, I have.
"Fixed issue where Advanced Threat Defense affected read/write performance"
No mention of update backup.
I doubt I will get response.Maybe ask this question on the BD forum, about the update backup![]()
Of couse; the battle is between B and K.LoL . Yes indeed there are a few that calls them bugdefender, i don't care what they say about BD . . . all i know is that BD is top for several years in a row and chosen to be one of the best.
I don't see this an issue. If you have a good SSD, it will take years before it dies. Just make regular backups and do not overthink it.500 MB full definitions backup with each update is small!
