The Stable channel is being updated to 83.0.4103.77 (Platform version: 13020.55.0 or 13020.55.1) for most Chrome OS devices. This build contains a number of bug fixes and security updates. Systems will be receiving updates over the next several days.

You should soon see an update on your device for Chrome OS 83! As part of this new release, here’s a list of new features and changes you’ll notice when you update to this new version of Chrome.

Name your Virtual Desks
You can now name your desks to better organize your Chromebook. From Overview, click on the desk name and enter a new one. For more information on how you can use Virtual Desks on your Chromebook, visit the help center article.

View Password/Pin during Login
When you are logging into your Chromebook, you can now reveal the text you entered for your password or pin by clicking on the ‘Show Password’ icon. This feature allows you to double check your password or PIN before entering into your Chromebook.

Media Sessions with Assistant
You can now control your media sessions already playing with Assistant. You can tell Assistant to perform actions like “Pause” | “Next” | “Resume” | “Stop”. To learn more about how you can use the Google Assistant on your Chromebook, please visit our new ‘Discover Google Assistant’ section within the Help Center.

Use Google for Families on Chromebooks
Families will now be able to use the following new features for Google for Families on Chromebooks. For more information, visit our new ‘Use Google for Families’ section within the Help Center.
  1. Approve your child’s Chrome Web Store extensions & apps on Chromebook
  2. Add a school account for a Family Link user
  3. Set Play Store app time limits for your child on Chromebook
Tab Groups on Chrome Browser
Tab groups in Chrome help you organize your tabs and are now available on Chrome OS. Now, with a simple right click, you can group your tabs together and label them with a custom name and color. Once the tabs are grouped together, you can move and reorder them on the tab strip. This feature should be slowly rolling out over the next month.

You can also view a list of bugs that were fixed here, and you can find more information on switching to beta or developer versions of Chrome OS here.

As always, please share any feedback you have by using the instructions here, and if you encounter any bugs or issues, please feel free to create a new thread on this forum!

Friendly Reminder: This update will be progressively rolling out over the coming days. Your device may not immediately be eligible for this update.

Best,
Alisha on behalf of the Chrome OS team
