Hello,

They call me TwinHeadedEagle around here, and I'll be working with you.

Before we start please read and note the following:
  • At the top of your post, please click on the "Watch thread" button and make sure to check Watch this thread...and receive email notifications. This will send an email to you as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing me to solve your problem faster.
  • Please do not install any new software during the cleaning process other than the tools I provide for you. This can hinder the cleaning process. Please do not perform System Restore or any other restore.
  • Instructions I give to you are very simple and made for complete beginner to follow. That's why you need to read through my instructions carefully and completely before executing them.
  • Please do not run any tools other than the ones I ask you to, when I ask you to. Some of these tools can be very dangerous if used improperly. Also, if you use a tool that I have not requested you use, it can cause false positives, thereby delaying the complete cleaning of your machine.
  • All tools we use here are completely clean and do not contain any malware. If your antivirus detects them as malicious, please disable your antivirus and then continue.
  • If during the process you run across anything that is not in my instructions, please stop and ask. If any tool is running too much time (few hours), please stop and inform me.
  • I visit forum several times at day, making sure to respond to everyone's topic as fast as possible. But bear in mind that I have private life like everyone and I cannot be here 24/7. So please be patient with me. Also, some infections require less, and some more time to be removed completely, so bear this in mind and be patient.
  • Please stay with me until the end of all steps and procedures and I declare your system clean. Just because there is a lack of symptoms does not indicate a clean machine. If you solved your problem yourself, set aside two minutes to let me know.
  • Please attach all report using
    fjqb1h.png
    button below. Doing this, you make it easier for me to analyze and fix your problem.

  • Do not ask for help for your business PC. Companies are making revenue via computers, so it is good thing to pay someone to repair it.
  • If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed.

First, enter Control Panel and remove Catalina Savings Printer

Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop:

Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!

  • Right-click on
    FRST.gif
    icon and select
    RunAsAdmin.jpg
    Run as Administrator to start the tool.
    (XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
  • Press the Fix button just once and wait.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  • When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.

Please attach it to your reply.

Hi there. I have attached the log. At present while it is running faster, it is still giving me popups and opening multiple tabs. I also have malware bytes running in the background and it has an orange triangle on it. Windows asked me to turn on Windows Defender when I rebooted after ADW - as I had to uninstall System Mechanic (prior to contacting you). I have said yes, I hope that that is okay. If not I can turn it back off. I hope that makes sense. Thank you for your patience.

Hi there. The problem is with is. When I click on a link. It pops up another screen. I was using system mechanic for my anti virus, but it was not working well, so I trialled eset 32. I was in the process of reinstalling system mechanic, but for some reason the anti virus software was not installing properly. At that point I came to you for help, and for not want to pursue any other installation without your permission. Yes mslwarebytes is a trial version. In terms of malware bytes I am no longer getting the pop up blocking with the dllhost error. I have not run a malware bytes scan as per instructions above.

Can I pursue installation of system mechanic av?

Sorry, the problem is with ie. I have not run chrome, as I am not using the internet for anything but installing the software you have recommended and to download system mechanic pro and av. (Av not yet installed).

Hope that makes sense

Please stay away from programs like System Mechanic, TuneUp, Glary Utilities and similar. Services that they provide are fake. You cannot speed your PC more than it is. Only way to improve its performance is hardware upgrade. Was I clear?

Crystal clear, and I appreciate the advice. I will uninstall Sys Mechanic. Suggestions for good AV software? I am happy to invest. Also - further action from here?

I very much appreciate your time and input.

I am using ESET myself, and I would recommend it. But it is commercial AV, so you'll need to pay for it.

Any other issues, or I can give you my final speech?

I will give ESET a go, and will run that and get back to you if that is okay. Just to make sure that I am clean. I am now at work, so will do that tonight,

I have two question re:Malwarebytes - is it helpful - and worth investing in - or will a program like ESET suffice?

I am looking forward to your final speech.

Thank you once again.

MalwareBytes PRO and ESET will be amazing combo, I use them both.

Glad I could help. We will delete all used tools and I'll give you some tips to harden your security and learn how to protect yourself :)

MUST READ - general maintenance:

The Importance of Software Updating:

In order to stay protected it is
very important that you regularly update all of your software. Cybercriminals depend on the apathy of users around software updates to keep their malicious endeavor running.

Operating systems, such as Windows, and applications, such as Adobe Reader or JAVA, are used by tens of millions of computers and devices around the world, making them a huge target for cybercriminals. Downloading updates and installing them can sometimes be tedious, but the advantages you get from the updates are certainly worth it.

Recommended additional software:
icon_arrow.gif
TFC - to clean unneeded temporary files.
icon_arrow.gif
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware - to scan your system from time to time in search for malware.
icon_arrow.gif
Malwarebytes' Anti-Exploit - to prevent plenty of mostly exploited vulnerabilities.
icon_arrow.gif
McShield - to prevent infections spread by removable media.
icon_arrow.gif
Unchecky - to prevent from installing additional foistware, implemented in legitimate installations.
icon_arrow.gif
FiheHippo.com Update Checker - to keep your programs up-to-date.

Adblock - to surf the web without annoying ads!

Post-cleanup procedures:

Download DelFix by Xplode and save it to your desktop.
  • Run the tool by right click on the
    51a5ce45263de-delfix.png
    icon and Run as administrator option.
  • Make sure that these ones are checked:
    • Remove disinfection tools
    • Purge system restore
    • Reset system settings
  • Push Run and wait until the tool completes his work.
  • All tools we used should be gone. Tool will create an report for you (C:\DelFix.txt)
The tool will also record healthy state of registry and make a backup using ERUNT program in %windir%\ERUNT\DelFix
Tool deletes old system restore points and create a fresh system restore point after cleaning.

Hi there, back again :( IE is not behaving at all. I am having problems when I click on links, even in MalwareTips and bleeping computer. I have redownloaded ADW and FRST and added the reports to this. I have not yet run the clean function on ADW. But this superfish has popped up a number of times when I have previously run an ADW scan and also cleaned it. ESET ran a clean first scan.

when i click on a link the tab flashes up t.cttsrv.com and then opens up an ad and there is also a dynamic pricer toolbar that comes up occasionally too.

Any suggestions?
Thanks for your patience

Hi there. I have run the scan. The program has completed, but did not close down or ask for a restart. It opened one file folderchk.vbs (cannot attach - pasted below), and it I found the log in the C:\ folder. I am assuming I can turn anti virus etc back on?

I have also copied below the info from Zoek - can I close that down?

Option Explicit
Dim fs, objFSO, objLogFile, oFolder
Set fs = CreateObject("scripting.filesystemobject")
oFolder = Wscript.Arguments.Item(0)
Const ForAppending = 2
Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set objLogFile = objFSO.OpenTextFile("test.txt", ForAppending, True)
objLogFile.Write(oFolder & " (F=")
objLogFile.Write CountFiles(oFolder)
objLogFile.Write(" D=")
objLogFile.Write CountFolders(oFolder)
objLogFile.Write(" ")
objLogFile.Write FolderSize(oFolder)
objLogFile.Write(" bytes)" & vbCrLf )
objLogFile.Close
Function CountFolders (ByVal StrFolder)
Dim ParentFld
Dim SubFld
Dim IntCount
Set ParentFld = fs.GetFolder (StrFolder)
IntCount = ParentFld.SubFolders.Count
For Each SubFld In ParentFld.SubFolders
IntCount = IntCount + CountFolders(SubFld.Path)
Next
CountFolders = IntCount
End Function
Function FolderSize (ByVal StrFolder)
Dim ParentFld
Dim IntCount
Set ParentFld = fs.GetFolder (StrFolder)
IntCount = ParentFld.size
FolderSize = IntCount
End Function
Function CountFiles (ByVal StrFolder)
Dim ParentFld
Dim SubFld
Dim IntCount
Set ParentFld = fs.GetFolder (StrFolder)
IntCount = ParentFld.Files.Count
For Each SubFld In ParentFld.SubFolders
IntCount = IntCount + CountFiles(SubFld.Path)
Next
CountFiles = IntCount
End Function

Attached also the info from Zoek screen:

Further update - once I closed the folderchk.vbs window it told me it needed to restart. Have done so, and attaching further log. In posting this update it has currently opened 6 new tabs on IE, so no success so far. Log attached.

Have done so, did so for Chrome as well,ran ADW cleaner, and Malware bytes screen all clean, But when I open up IE I continue to get pop ups. Shut down, rescan with ADW - find superfish again, keeps reinfecting. Scan attached.

I appreciate your continuing support, and will gladly buy you a beer or two after this!
