Do you have to keep Microsoft Edge updated if you don't use it? Is it recommended?

I update it regularly even if I don't use it. Some other application might use some of it's components, so IMO it is prudent to update it.

There are two services and two scheduled task that should take care of it. Just make sure they are enabled.

As far as the software that connects to the web is concerned, I think you need to look through the latest version. I rarely use edges, but I do not neglect to update. The disadvantage is that you don't really know what has been improved.
