Double Commander is a free cross platform open source file manager with two panels side by side. It is inspired by Total Commander and features new ideas.

Some key features:​

• Internal text editor (F4) with syntax hightlighting
• Built in file viewer (F3) to view files of in hex, binary or text format
• Archives are handled like subdirectories. You can easily copy files to and from archives. Supported archive types: ZIP, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, LZMA, 7Z and also RPM, CPIO, DEB, RAR, ZIPX
• Extended search function with full text search in any files
• Configurable button bar to start external programs or internal menu commands
• Total Commander WCX, WDX, WFX and WLX plug-ins support
• Unicode support
• Most operations working in background
• FTP, FTPS, FTPES, SSH+SCP and SFTP protocols support
• Multi-rename tool
• Tabbed interface
• Custom columns
• File operations logging

Backward incompatible changes:

• Directory hotlist is stored in the localconfig.xml now.
• Secure password store format had changed (file pwd.ini). The old format is converted on first use, new file format cannot be used with previous Double Commander versions. New format uses Argon2 key derivation function.
