Appreciate help to locate and eradicate virus...As I explained: I had a few ads in news sites I visit, so I just downloaded Adblocker+ ...Now I have ads on EVERY page/screen! I can't find any "ad" files in "programs/features"; they all appear legit. This is driving me nuts as I should not have downloaded anything anyway, and just tolerated a few ads here and there --- to have this result/virus! Thank you very much!

Hi THE...Sorry not to have performed these scans. Pls review, and let me know what's up.
(btw - forgot to note that I had downloaded adblocker twice (duh), and uninstalled it twice; but the damage (ie, infection) was already done)
thanks so much...!

IE (don't know version)...Half of the ads actually show products of the shopping sites I've visited in the last few weeks, and the other half are random ads for products of all kinds.

Let me know if this helped:

FRST.gif
Fix with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

icon_exclaim.gif
This fix was created for this user for use on that particular machine.
icon_exclaim.gif

icon_exclaim.gif
Running it on another one may cause damage and render the system unstable.
icon_exclaim.gif

Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop:

Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!

  • Right-click on
    FRST.gif
    icon and select
    RunAsAdmin.jpg
Run as Administrator to start the tool.
(XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
  • Press the Fix button just once and wait.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  • When finishes FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.

Please attach it to your reply.

Hi THE...Again, infinite THANKS for your expert assistance and patience.

Pls review the shots...Comments re ads, besides that NONE were present before I downloaded that "blocker", and again - ADS on EVERY PAGE I view :
1. There are MORE ads on EACH page than yesterday, including every position on the page; top, bottom, right column, etc! Seems as though its AI (artificial intelligence) malware ?? (weird comment, I know),
2. Nearly all are "interactive"; they change their appearance, text, etc .

Thank you so much! (I'm kind of getting pretty frantic, since it appears that they're proliferating, and I REALLY abhor ads)

Alright...I'll give it a try, will click on the exact site you've indicated... (am confused and frustrated)
My God...I think that worked - I've checked several of my sites, and no ads...oh my god (I'm sorry, I'm in shock)... .
I will re-log in during the day to confirm this happy resolution, and crossing my fingers.
(btw, one change from what I thought I was downloading previously is that the correct, huge page, "ABP has been installed/updated" appeared when I rebooted; I'm pretty sure I didn't see this page previously)

Anyway...I do thank you so much, THE! I don't really know what happened to have caused the adware, but here we are.
I would like to contribute a tiny bit to your/MalwareTips "coffee" fund (coffee fiends unite) for your unwavering and kind assistance - pls forward a paypal account...I'm soooo relieved! :)))))

Since there are no more problems, we can declare this PC clean

Now, we can proceed with post-cleanup procedures. Let's remove my tools and create a new, non infected restore point concurrently deleting old ones.

Step 1. - Creation of system restore point and tools removal.

Download DelFix by Xplode and save it to your desktop.
  • Run the tool by right click on the
    51a5ce45263de-delfix.png
icon and Run as administrator option.
  • Make sure that these ones are checked:
    • Remove disinfection tools
    • Purge system restore
    • Reset system settings
  • Push Run and wait until the tool completes his work.
  • All tools we used should be gone. Tool will create an report for you (C:\DelFix.txt). I don't need it for review.
Tool deletes old system restore points and creates a fresh system restore point after cleaning.

Step 2. - Tips and tricks to keep your computer clean, safe and in a good shape.

Security tips - highly recommended reading:

Maintenance tips:

Additional software that I personally use and install on all my clients devices:

  • Zemana AntiMalware (paid version highly recommended) - to work as a supplement for your antivirus but with excellent remediation and protection
  • Zemana AntiLogger - keep everything you type on keyboard out of sight of bad guys trying to steal your credantials
  • Malwarebytes' Anti-Exploit - to prevent plenty of mostly exploited vulnerabilities.
  • McShield - to prevent infections spread by removable media.
  • Unchecky - to prevent from installing additional foistware, implemented in legitimate installations.
  • CryptoPrevent - tool for protection against Cryptolocker and similar ransomware infections.
  • Adblock - to surf the web without annoying ads!
  • Qualys BrowserCheck - cloud service that scans your browsers and plugins to see if they’re all up-to-date.

Thank you, THE, will do...but, will Delfix delete ABP? Should I not retain this program?

No, it is only going to remove malware removal programs from your system. You should keep ABP and install it in every browser.

Hi THE...I think I screwed up - Delfix has been performed, and I tried to download Adblock again, twice! But, it's not showing in my program list, and neither did I get the "ABP has been updated" page upon reboot --- AND ALL ADS have reappeared everywhere!!! what did I do incorrectly? Oh dear...
