Hi all,

I'm aware that you need logs/further information to really help, but I just wanted to make an initial post to get the ball rolling. Having installed all the relevant antivirus software/run the programs I was instructed to on the remove Dregol tutorial on this site, I'm at my wit's end with this issue as it's causing serious problems, crippling my PC's internet speed and basically rendering it useless. I'm at work atm but will post logs etc. as soon as I get home later on today.

I had an issue with Dregol months and months ago, but fixed it (I can't remember how, I'm afraid) and made it go away for a long time. Then, in the last two or three weeks, I noticed that my internet became extremely unstable and slow on my main PC (these weren't issues I experienced the last time I had the Dregol issue). It's definitely a problem with the PC rather than the connection, since the internet is lightning fast on my other devices that use the same Wi-Fi connection. I ran checks and tried to make sure all my drivers were updated, etc., but nothing worked. Then, two days ago, Dregol reared its ugly head again and took over Google Chrome. When I ran through all of the steps on the tutorial yesterday the problem seemed to be fixed, but when I booted up the computer again this morning Dregol was back! It's incredibly frustrating and annoying, and I'm desperate to get it fixed. I'm eternally grateful for any help anyone could offer on this.

I'm not a computer super genius, but I'm not a complete idiot and like to think that there's more I can do before I need to turn to paid help. Nonetheless, if any help/advice could be kept relatively clear/straightforward for someone who's mostly non-technical, that would be amazing.

(Also, I think Dregol originally came from some freeware image editing software I installed without checking to see what was being installed with it. I curse my stupidity and failure to check what I was installing. Never again!)

Hello,

They call me TwinHeadedEagle around here, and I'll be working with you.

Before we start please read and note the following:
  • At the top of your post, please click on the "Watch thread" button and make sure to check Watch this thread...and receive email notifications. This will send an email to you as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing me to solve your problem faster.
  • Please do not install any new software during the cleaning process other than the tools I provide for you. This can hinder the cleaning process. Please do not perform System Restore or any other restore.
  • Instructions I give to you are very simple and made for complete beginner to follow. That's why you need to read through my instructions carefully and completely before executing them.
  • Please do not run any tools other than the ones I ask you to, when I ask you to. Some of these tools can be very dangerous if used improperly. Also, if you use a tool that I have not requested you use, it can cause false positives, thereby delaying the complete cleaning of your machine.
  • All tools we use here are completely clean and do not contain any malware. If your antivirus detects them as malicious, please disable your antivirus and then continue.
  • If during the process you run across anything that is not in my instructions, please stop and ask. If any tool is running too much time (few hours), please stop and inform me.
  • I visit forum several times at day, making sure to respond to everyone's topic as fast as possible. But bear in mind that I have private life like everyone and I cannot be here 24/7. So please be patient with me. Also, some infections require less, and some more time to be removed completely, so bear this in mind and be patient.
  • Please stay with me until the end of all steps and procedures and I declare your system clean. Just because there is a lack of symptoms does not indicate a clean machine. If you solved your problem yourself, set aside two minutes to let me know.
  • Please attach all report using
    fjqb1h.png
button below. Doing this, you make it easier for me to analyze and fix your problem.

  • Do not ask for help for your business PC. Companies are making revenue via computers, so it is good thing to pay for the repair.
  • If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed.

Scan with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

Hi, here's the logfile. Just so you know I've already ran AdwCleaner several times - dregol comes back each time.

Here's the latest! Also, I don't know if this helps/gives you a better sense of the problem, but I've found that the internet on this PC almost never works first thing in the morning when I boot the PC up, and seems to be taking longer and longer to work when I get home after work in the evenings. Again, this is an issue localised to my PC (instead of being something connected to the connection itself).

Thanks very much for guiding me through this :).

How is the situation now?

Hi, there's no evidence of Dregol (which is great) but the internet still isn't working. I had assumed the two issues were linked since they were almost concurrent, but presumably there's something more to it. The computer detects the wi-fi signal, but when I attempt to connect I get the following error message:

"wireless association failed because WIndows did not receive any response from the wireless router or access point"

It's only about five feet away. The laptop I'm using right now is the same distance away from the router, and the signal on that is lighting fast. It's definitely a problem with the PC rather than the signal.

Just so you know, the internet is either non-existent or at a true crawl. It will periodically come on (generally just long enough to load a single web page) before cutting out for another extended period.

Hi, here's the latest - the scan didn't find anything. The internet is working again on the PC (for now) but I'm wary and don't trust it to stay stable!
