Media trying to whip-up the hysteria.

It doesn't take much, people being what they really are.

Tariffs will not bring manufacturing jobs to any nation. The timeline for industry to build factories, hire people, and get production running is not months. It is decades. Plus, when there are people in 2nd and 3rd world nations willing to work for .10 Euros per hour to do the same thing, companies will just keep operating in those nations.

And this is what I wrote, just a speculation. We know things are about to get expensive, but no one knows exactly how much. It might differ from company to company, depending on their policy how to handle the situation. It's said that Apple will try to dodge the tariffs by moving some of the production to the US, but this cannot be done in short time frame.

MAGA keeps saying "things might be expensive on a short term, but in a long run prices will normalize". The problem with this claim is not every material US needs to build something is present on the US soil and much of it needs to be imported. Take Gallium for example, which is used in semiconductors and LEDs; US has to import 100% of its gallium and China is the world's largest exporter, producing 95% of global supply.
And even if the US had supply of everything, the question is if foreign companies would want to open a factory there. If they decide to do so that would take time—years, if not decades. Now... is MAGA ready for having their everyday products way expensive for years... it's up to them. There's only so much time they could blame Biden for things getting more expensive. In 10 years, they won't be able to blame Biden anymore.

Trump Threatens Additional 50% China Tariff Over Retaliation

President Donald Trump threatened to “impose ADDITIONAL Tariffs on China of 50%” unless Beijing withdraws a 34% retaliatory duty on US goods.

“If China does not withdraw its 34% increase above their already long term trading abuses by tomorrow, April 8th, 2025, the United States will impose ADDITIONAL Tariffs on China of 50%, effective April 9th,” Trump posted on social media.

The 50% charge would come on top of the 34% duty the president imposed on all Chinese imports — set to begin Wednesday — as well as a 20% levy that he put in place earlier tied to fentanyl trafficking, according to a White House official.

The Chinese embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

I would, except we need to apply for passports but fear they might arrest and deport us in so doing. I hear El Salvador is nice this time of year, but ... their quarters are very confining due to packing the cells full. And they shave your head. My head gets cold easily. ;)
