Hello everyone,

I'm looking for something light and good IS for yourself. I am a player and for many years I use Kaspersky.
I would like to know your opinions. It might be worthwhile to change the internet security? :)
Is there a IS that provides a balanced ratio protection <> usage of resources?

The computer is used for playing and listening to music (legally). I don't download illegal software and cracks. Usually browsing normal websites and sometimes porns :p

My system and PC:
Operating System:
Windows 8.1 with updates
Architecture:
64-bit (x64)
Computer Knowledge:
Medium-High ;p
Number of users for this PC:
  • I'm the only one who is using this machine (Private)
On-demand Scanners:
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free
Web Browser(s):
Firefox with adblock and no script
Any other software:
games

I thought of Norton but I read that the latest version is worse in the detection. What do you think about ESET Smart Security? Maybe you have other suggestions? I am confused because I don't know what to choose.

Thank you for any opinions :)

You forget to mention your processor and your RAM, for me KIS is very heavy.... but if you are to paranoid in security it will be for you..

On the other hand EIS is light at least on my system /intel celeron b800 2gb ram/ and it fit all my requirements... no more, no less just as needed... With this i mean that it doesnt have features that i would never use... like in KIS...

Piopsi, you've narrowed your choices to highly acclaimed AV Suites with good reputations, and I was glad you'd mentioned ESET as I use their NOD 32 (version 8) on our Windows 7 SP 1 which neither includes it's own Firewall (we prefer using Windows Firewall) nor parental controls we do not need. gricardo21, mentioned the lightness of Emsisoft. Coincidentally, when our ESET subscription runs out in February we'll be trying Emsisoft IS 9 for the very first time thanks (gratefully) to a delightful win from one of our recent Giveaways! Our goal is for balanced protection and lightness. I have also read some have experienced heaviness with Kasperski, yet it has an excellent reputation for good detection with low false positives. I'd enjoyed hearing good things about Kasperski here from both omidomi and ahmad123;:) and although I have not tried it myself yet, I did present Kasperski IS to my son to replace MSE on his Windows 7 desktop computer. Personally, I think I could be happy with either of your choices, but the best way for you to decide how you feel is to try them (each one) for a free 30 day trial period and see. The beauty is that you cannot make a bad choice, yet whichever you ultimately decide to be your personal favorite still remains to be seen, though I'm sure you'll solve this mystery and there shall be no doubt!;) I shall look forward to reading about which of these fine IS-es becomes the champion defender of your system!:D

I believe that Kaspersky excels above the rest, offering protection that others have never thought of. I know this may sound stupid, but with the Edward Snowden revelations about the NSA I trust Kaspersky because they are less likely to allow the NSA to put a back-door on their software.

I use both on different systems.I think KIS offers better protection however depending on your machine it can be a bit heavy for some.EIS is much lighter than it has been in the past when it was made up of EAM & OA separately and would run much more frequent updates. Both are very good but if you have been using KIS I wouldnt change.EIS 9 is an excellent suite as is ESET Smart Security

This was brilliant!!:D Lol..:p

Living in the US, I would especially trust Kaspersky to protect me *laughing* because they shall still be willing to protect any and all Malware Tips' World Citizens!:):)

Hi! I have never used either. I use MSE and MBAM Pro in real time. In three years with this laptop, I have never been infected.
I have saved a ton of money. I always have a clean image of my OS that I can restore to. Common sense and MSE is my choice. MSE is as light as you can get. I never know it's even around. If you don't know what a PUP is when you see it, and you can't resist clicking on pop ups, then maybe you should pay big $$ for a Anti-Virus or wait for a give away.:)It has been my experience that the PC operator is the one that invites malware on to their machine. Of course you need a Anti-Virus, but you also need a brain!;):). Don't use P2P and torrents. Stay off the porn sites.:):)
PS Do you like my new avatar Mike made for me?? Pretty cool!! Why do they call this the war room??

Gentlemen, thank you for the constructive opinions. I have to admit that it is a tough choice.

I installed two programs in trial version: EIS and KIS.

It seems to me that Kaspersky takes less RAM. But EIS consumes less CPU.
I don't know if my observations are correct ;)

Of course you need a Anti-Virus, but you also need a brain!;):).

Totally agree with that :)

Greetings!

Hi! I don't want to get to far off subject here! Not sure why this is called the war room, but I guessing it's called that so members can express their feeling: so here's mine. Software companies have to compete with each other and so what better way than to advertise that their Anti-Virus finds more malware and less FP's and uses less resources. Why does every forum that cleans infected PC's use malwarebytes to scan PC's. That's because they are #1 and have been in the business for years. Viruses are not the problem they use to be. It's malware and PUP's that are being distributed these days. Ok I admit, I'm not educated or trained and my computer vocabulary leaves a lot to be desired, but I do know a few things about these things. Most of the free Anti-Virus programs will protect you just fine. Avast,Avira, MSE, Avg(Not to crazy about Avg).
Use one of these with MBAM Pro. Add WOT to all your browers. Add add blocker+ to your browsers. Add Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit free.
Use your brain and surf safely. I'll get off my stump now and just say it's great that some of our members are constantly testing new software for detection rates and reporting their findings. That's basically what this forum is all about. If you want to add more protection use a Linux OS and sand boxing. Bottom line is malware protection is what you need these days and there isn't any thing better than MBAM Pro running with your Anti-Virus program IMHO.
PS If this is off topic on this thread, please move it. Probably should have opened my own thread!
Thanks!

OK... I'll be direct. Both are good products. Kaspersky is better. In fact, these two products are not in the same league. Kaspersky offers better protection (the most important thing), it's higly customizable (if it is set up correctly - is impenetrable; if you want better performance and i assume you have some knowledge about malwares, just under Settings > Protection > File Antivirus > Security level set LOW - performance will be excellent), has lot better self protection, less vulnerable, etc. Wait for 10 days - when Kaspersky whitelist commonly used apps it will perform even better. Overall an excellent product - Kaspersky is a giant corporation. Emsisoft is good also. Resource usage (not most important thing) and privacy policy are on their side, in some things they are equal. The company continuously progressing...but for now :)
