Hello everyone,

I'm looking for something light and good IS for yourself. I am a player and for many years I use Kaspersky.
I would like to know your opinions. It might be worthwhile to change the internet security? :)
Is there a IS that provides a balanced ratio protection <> usage of resources?

The computer is used for playing and listening to music (legally). I don't download illegal software and cracks. Usually browsing normal websites and sometimes porns :p

My system and PC:
Operating System:
Windows 8.1 with updates
Architecture:
64-bit (x64)
Computer Knowledge:
Medium-High ;p
Number of users for this PC:
  • I'm the only one who is using this machine (Private)
On-demand Scanners:
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free
Web Browser(s):
Firefox with adblock and no script
Any other software:
games

I thought of Norton but I read that the latest version is worse in the detection. What do you think about ESET Smart Security? Maybe you have other suggestions? I am confused because I don't know what to choose.

Thank you for any opinions :)

Hi! I don't want to get to far off subject here! Not sure why this is called the war room, but I guessing it's called that so members can express their feeling

It is called the War Room because "Need opinions on comparing 2 or more products, ask here. Feel free to share your views with other members to state your case"
Yes we should stay on topic and honor the OP's request before we get too far off track

I tested Kaspersky a few months back with a 4 months outdated database and with no patches installed, on a Windows 7 (also no updates).

And it was able to block every single malware i threw at it except some Adware junk.

This was extremely impressive!!

Unpatched Windows 7 together with outdated Kaspersky could visually be the zombie/terminator pitcher & catcher team resurected from beyond.:p With Windows 7 on the mound, Kasperski caught every pitch as malware struck out, with only the Adware getting a base hit.:D

Me thinks this is above my pay grade, but I approve! I'm still sticking with MSE and MBAB pro until they let me down.;)

For paid antivirus the best choice is ESET, because:
  • Better Signatures (also faster updates to 0 day threats)
  • Better Performance and system start up
  • Better detection of PUP (Potentially unwanted programs)
  • Hips available (you can customize HIPS according to your PC knowledge)

Free AVs can do the job too (if not better in some cases)
1) Qihoo 360 Internet Security because:
  • a) TOP detection rate
  • b) Very good behavior blocker (registry, file, keylogger, wifi protection etc)
  • c) Extremely light on system
  • d) Very good support team

2) AVAST free
  • a) Very good signatures
  • b) many settings to play with (sensitivity, detection of PUP etc...)
  • c) Network protection
  • d) Hardened Mode to lock your system security

I love Emsisoft Anti-Malware (and EIS too), but in my opinion Kaspersky Internet Security is superior compared to Emsisoft suite solution.

KIS has Application Control module and that makes all the diference for me ...

They have more or less the same impact in my system; in my opinion they are both top tier security solution that you cant go wrong using it :)

HI! I'm always trying to learn new things and I'm always ready to listen to those that know more than I do.(That includes just about everyone here on MT;))
I have learned every thing I know from forums like MT.
I have a question about all these Anti-Virus programs. I run a free Anti-Virus program on my rig and my question is!!
If I scan my PC regularly before creating a back up image of my OS(Once a month); with ESET on line scanner or Emsisoft Emergency Kit and they find 0 infections; why should I pay big $$ for their programs to run in realtime. I'm aware that they would stop the infections before they got on my PC, much like MBAM Pro does; which I run with MSE!
I have ran both ESET and Emsisoft on line scanners and they have never found any thing. That's a good thing:)
PS Sorry for being long winded. I'm just a old country boy trying to learn.
While the Online Scanner tells you if you have a computer virus, ESET's award-winning software protects you from being infected in the first place.

Hello, your specifications sincerely advise staying with Kaspersky IS 2015. EIS does not convince me and has to slow down the pc with media resources, then if you want another company Eset advise IS 8.

There are many whom feel strongly one way or the other about going with paid versus free protections. If I'm remembering correctly piopsi has both licenses, and won't have to pay. To answer your question logically donetao, we do not have to pay big $$ for realtime protection. Paid or free, the most desirable part is that we each have the freedom to choose. MSE is a good example of how realtime does not have to cost.
On the topic of Kasperski, Emsisoft, or even ESET, (if cookies & hugs were to be involved in the mix) you might just find yourself happily choosing between three excellent paid protections someone might slip into the basket for you beside those delicious oatmeal raisin cookies!:p

You are some thing else my friend! You just made my day. I'm a little off topic also.:) I will think about the basket when I scan my PC before creating a back up image and find a bunch of infections. It could happen. Never say never. Till then I will stay with MSE and MBAM Pro:rolleyes:
PS seniors have been quite lately.;)
