I recall having F-PROT on DOS pc and putting files on floppy and scanning them in DOS and of course updating av definitions the same way.

It brought back memories of the good old days.

It was such a mistake to get rid of this amazing product. It was one of the most effective and fast removal tools on the market. Now, in the US, we’re very limited when it comes to virus removal tools since we can’t use Power Eraser or Kaspersky products, both of which were highly effective. Nothing else really matches the capabilities of those two.

Don't worry you still got TM Housecall and Eset Online Scanner. Both are enough with auto-updates.

Sad to see Norton Power Eraser reach end of life — it’s been a useful tool for many of us over the years. Thanks to everyone here sharing alternatives and tips. This kind of community wisdom really helps when a familiar tool is retired. Stay safe out there!

Let's say your not the trusting type, maybe Microsoft burned you 20 years ago, you desired "Nope, gonna use something else to scan occasionally, just to make sure".

99% of the time the smart people turn to NPE...

The companies know this. So they say we get nothing out of NPE, let discontinue it maybe some of them will buy our pay product.

That's you opinion and mine also.

But for the AV companies, maybe not in their favor, it's a free product and they don't really get any benefit from it being free.
