New Update ESET v19

Eset Secuirty is a good Antivirus Software. However, it is difficult to uninstall. You need the ESET uninstaller. Windows’ own uninstaller usually doesn’t work. In Windows, you have to boot into safe mode to uninstall the programm. That's very complicated.
I'm a restless soul and I tend to use either Eset or Kaspersky depending on how I feel when I wake up; that is to say, I've installed and uninstalled Eset countless times and I've never had any problems with the uninstallation.

Keyboard protection causes issues to this day with random scrambled input. Window's start menu is one example and I've been able to reproduce since its creation to this day, but it's random: open the start menu with the Win key and quickly start typing something to search and there's like a 50% chance of it scrambling input. Playnite is another application I frequently saw that happen. The emoji keyboard is also non-functional with this featured enabled and ESET claims there is no solution: Browser keyboard protection interferes with Windows 11 emoji picker

Kaspersky also has a keyboard protection, and I remember that has created also issues like yours but in the new Kaspersky versions, the issues seem disappeared, so at least with Kaspersky there isn't anymore this problem.

This whole browser protection approach by Eset has been wrong in my opinion since the start. It causes more problems than it solves. Look at the emoji situation for one. ESET claims it's because Windows doesn't offer something they need to work around it, but come on, ESET should be the one working around Windows, not the other way around. That lock they created for browser profiles also launched with issues that broke existing configurations and you still need to manually allow programs access to browser profiles through a convoluted procedure of checking the logs. There's not even a notification. I could go on and on about all the problems of Secure Browser that have not been addressed to this day.

This lock for browser profiles resembles the lock that Windows Defender makes when the "Ransomware protection" is active.

What is the purpose of this screen protection? It will, once again, cause workflow disruptions for users unaware of it. And what does it protect users from? You have to be already compromised for it to be useful so how does that align with ESET's prevention-first philosophy? My take is that all these band-aid solutions exist in an attempt to make up for their lack of behavioral protection.

Yeah, I think the same. I accidentally activated it on SpyShelter without me noticing it and it was a nightmare. If only they showed some notification to say that the protection, it would be better.

I've been critical of ESET on many of my posts because of things like this. They release features that don't make much sense and actually cause issues, very often on release, as if no testing took place. It's the main reason I stopped using their products over an year ago. I trust the company as a whole, but their decisions regarding their products don't make sense. They still haven't provided a justification for locking ransomware remediation behind their Ultimate package, while their competitors provide it as a standard feature.

Yeah, I agree on this. If a feature is not 100% tested and reliable, I think it's better to not release it.

I received a 90-day free key of ESET but, after your post, I don't think I'll install it. Because if the protection is excellent but it creates severe issues with the system, at this point is better not using them. And, as I said above, I used Kaspersky for years without any BSOD whatsoever. How ESET compare to Kaspersky for BSOD issue? It suffers more?

Thanks

This used to be true... Once I got the entire network stack removed when unistalling... nut hasn't happened to me in a few years.

I disabled browser protection (green outline of window) and want to re-enable it for particular browsers/profiles. How do I do this?

I can't seem to find a way. When I click on Secure Banking & Browsing it opens a fresh, clean profile of my default browser.

Mark as SOLVED? I suppose it gets re-enabled restarting laptop because afterwards it showed up when I opened different browsers.

ESET force you to use it. I still have 2 years subscription but i will not install it anymore.
I've been off and on with it myself for some reason. It's effective, I'm just iondecisive like that :D

On a completely different note, there's a game I sometimes play called Super Tux Kart which is free. Your sort of free verion of a MC. :D

If you were only looking for an option to turn the frame on or off then there's an option in the setting. I had the green frame permanently turned off. ESET has a lot of settings so sometimes it's not easy to find what you're looking for but the settings menu has a search feature. Searching for the word "frame" may help you to find the option. It's browser frame or something like that.

This is not true. The green frame and the default banking protection both can be turned off permanently.

I guess my Smart Home Premium trial version is equivalent to Nod32 with a couple of extras? No firewall .... 🤔
Did you try this? Advanced Setup > Protections > Network access protection > Firewall

If in the UI it says Smart Security Premium, then it has Firewall.
In the UI, go to Setup > Network protection and you will see Firewall, Network Attack Protection (IDS) and Botnet protection.

Smart Security Premium includes a firewall; in fact, all versions starting with Internet Security and above do. 🤔

Browser protection can be used independently. ESET creates a separate browser profile for Secure Banking & Browsing while allowing you to use the browser in normal mode. Alternatively, you can use the "Secure all browsers" toggle to run all browsers in protected mode. Here, you have more options for which protections will be enabled—memory protection, keyboard protection, and so on.
