Added: avast free

Removed:
- KIS 2017 - temporary
- HMP.A - conflicted with a game, unable to run without any notification, even added to exclusion -> uninstalled -> the game was able to run
Which game Rain ?
I am curious as I have a vast library of games and want to avoid any issues, so far I haven't had any.

Removed avast firewall + sandbox + secureDNS -> now avast IS = free without ads
I confirmed avast firewall caused problems with Voodooshield that VoodooAi took years to process a file. After removing firewall, it is x100 faster

@Evjl's Rain, Avast! without ads + Voodooshield is (imho) quite the secure combination.:) At an earlier time (..and on the same Acer lap top I type from now) I'd installed Avast! Premier, and likewise omitted it's firewall. There are times when less is preferable as you've illustrated here. Thank you for sharing this winning example with all of us!:D

- (Right Click) Allow, Block or Remove - Windows Firewall
- Avira Browser Safety
- Switched to Microsoft account (don't really like it): fixed the problem not being able to change default browser in W10 PC settings

Removed:
- BitDefender TrafficLight -> resource hog, too much CPU usage (x2-3 compared to avira), same in firefox
- Privacy Badger: same as above
- HTTPS everywhere: slowed down browsing speed, RAM hog

Hi Evjl's Rain.
My own Acer lap top has begun dragging for more than a few seconds during startups too! I've since disabled some startup programs, Zemana among them, so it's either not quite as sluggish anymore, or I might just be fooling myself!:p Our installed Emsisoft I.S. now has less than 2 months remaining, but it's eye openingo_O to read here that these slow-ish startups have not only been me!

Slimjet has long been my favorite Chromium Browser (currently installed on our linux systems). Maybe it's time to get it back as a portable Windows version too.:p

Since you use O & O Shut up, and privacy is a great concern, you might consider turning Microsoft account to a "local" one as others (staff here) have illustrated it effects more personal privacy protection.

To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click on the Windows symbol
  2. Find, & <click> on your own Windows avatar (picture)
  3. Choose "Change Account Settings"
  4. Below your name/picture you may choose "Sign in with local account instead"
Thank you for sharing your configuration, experiences, ..and inspiration to improve performance with us!

thank you for your comment :D
I love using local account but I experienced a problem that I couldn't change my default apps (browser, media players...) via w10 settings. Some apps don't show themselves in control panel so I cannot make them default. This forced me to use microsoft account which I don't want to. This is the only option since if I change it back to local, the problem appears again

Evjl's Rain, this sounded like a mystery I wanted to see myself (..although this tired cat really wanted, instead, to get warm & curl up to sleep!).:p
So, (obsessed as I was)o_O I looked under "Set Default Programs", and found just 1 of the 2 non-Microsoft Browsers I have installed, Vivaldi, located under programs. The other, Cyberfox, which is the browser I am typing from now, neither shows up nor is revealed when typed in the upper right "search control panel" corner. I'll mention here that I have no browser set as default, and Edge is what responds to searches on the Cortana line.:)
When I went in another way, under "Set Program Access and Computer Defaults" instead, I saw that under "Choose a configuration" o Microsoft windows, o Non Microsoft, & only the circle beside o*Custom was darkened.
Beneath "Choose a default browser" another circle darkened indicates o*Use my current browser (below is a line for Cyberfox, and another for Explorer. Neither of their circles were selected, but only the box to the right of Explorer, "Enable access to this program" was actually checked.
I'm guessing that maybe the reason I didn't see "Cyberfox" listed under "Set Default Programs" was because "Enable access..." was unchecked, ..but who knows?

I'd decided to <click> "Cancel" because  I was just not certain what I might mess up!

The moral of this long winded narrative is 2 fold:
  1. There are lots of nooks & crannies within Windows many of us have yet to explore even in the old familiar "Control Panel"! and...
  2. If the Microsoft Account is what you need for things to work correctly, by all means enjoy your Windows 10 Microsoft account!;)
  • ..and Thank God "It" works!:D
