So freaking sad another engine gone. Yes let's make everything Gen Digital so now even script kiddies can just optimize their packer against a single engine unless you are in China, India or Russia.

China has a crappy home grown AV engine

Russia has an amazing AV too bad it's KGBd (what they did to the western users by replacing engine without even a peep from the OS gives me enough data to know who they really are and what they are capable of)

India has another crappy AV engine.

So what we have left is Eset, McAfee, Microsoft, and checkpoint/ZA for the consumer market.
And maybe include the Romanian AV and their scanning engine in the what's left list :)

Oops forgot it. Had it before I edited my post by removing some choice language before posting and forgot to re add bit defender. I am using bitdefender gravity for one of my low end lappys and like it's lightness.
Oh wait I think trend micro has its own right?. That's the Japanese engine. Its all cloud based I think. That's another great one. I like trend micro, it used to be very heavy but recently I've read that it's quite nice. I expect my PC to turn into a Guntham and attack Kaiju whenever I test Trend Micro.

Then we have webroot but friends don't let friends run Webroot.

Edit: added bitdefender
Trend Micro, for me the absolute one with no interest in any other AV, Asian people are smart, Trend will never be Gen Digi !

@cartaphilus I can't agreed with your comment on india's own av engines.India has decent AV engines like K7,Quickheal but they are slowly catching up with industries leaders like ESET, Kaspersky or others. Indian AVs engines are far better than Chinese Avs engines.
How dare he mock our pain! 😡 Captain! :) Let's eScan where he is, fasten him to a rusty K7 plane, and have him flown for Quick Heal therapy as a lesson! 😊

I get a kick how this thread has become everything else beside F-Secure. It's like "okay, they're over and done with, let's talk about something else."
Too bad security software is not as reliable as a sentient rubber superball. Anyone remember the ones that were clear with glitter in them? Could bounce those things to the stratosphere.

These balls below know what they're doing. Thinking balls. Quantum AI ain't cracking these balls. The security software & services industry would do well to emulate them.

A few first-place AV Lab test finishes and all will be right as rain again.

Actually, if you carefully watch Shadowra's text, the Avira F-Secure was not terrible.

I am running 25.2 on the system I am typing on. I keep it on this one system just for the sake of curiosity.

Can you explain to me why Avira (Gen Digital) just did not buy DeepGuard? What if DeepGuard was not F-Secure technology to begin with? Anyone thought about that at all? Maybe, just maybe, it isn't or the F-Sec crew did actual Sentry versus DeepGuard comparison testing and the results shocked the Finnish out of them. Or... Sentry is a significantly cheaper operationally than DeepGuard. A combination of all of the above? Or not one at all.

Nothing surprises me.

F-Secure is still a good option for the security-challenged. The ones that get bad anxiety when something legit is blocked or they have to make a decision. They be reachin' for those Xanny bars.

R.I.P Fsecure

In the past, Fsecure had a BD engine, but Fsecure was not a lightweight AV at that time. It left and BD introduced Photon. Maybe BD is still not Eset in terms of being lightweight for the system, but it is a big improvement. And I think Bitdefender does not sell Photon technology, which can be seen from Gdata, which is heavier for the system than BD.

Fsecure chose Avira's engine. And that was acceptable, because it is only signatures. The rest, like DeepGuard, network protection or other mechanisms, were Fsecure's own. It is a great pity, because Avira is not Fsecure.

Now, unfortunately... it is time to leave the ship and return to Eset or Bitdefender.

R.I.P Fsecure

Thanks for the test, and I am a little disappointed with the results and the direction F-Secure is going. Having dual engines was a big selling point, but now that it uses 100% Avira products underneath, there is no point recommending it over standard Avira IMO. Not to mention that Avira even has a free version. I see F-Secure losing lots of its customers in the future unless it can come up with some other selling point over Avira.

Now I have one less AV to recommend. The only ones I would use now are ESET, Bitdefender and Kaspersky.

Fsecure was always at the forefront and compared to the best. Was Avira like that? Probably not.
They can change the engine, because they've done it before. But now they've closed the Fsecure project and replaced all technologies with Avira solutions. They even killed DeepGuard.
A test is a test. But @Shadowra clearly wrote that Sentra is not DeepGuard's level.
It's a shame, because Fsecure was a very good antivirus. Now it falls into the group of average players.

Maybe F-Secure has been offering Embedded Security for awhile and I'm just looking into it a little late. Are they simplifying, streamlining the consumer app to focus more on the business side? Including discontinuing some of the consumer stand alone apps and having them incorporated into Total, making them more cost and maintenance efficient?
