this morning I booted fedora Guest OS in VMware Workstation and connection was fine as it normally is, then I ran updates (I had not run fedora for several days) and it updated 6 installs, and 88 updates a total of 497mb, seemed to update ok, then it autorebooted itself and no connection to internet. Looked at various things with chatgpt and could not exactly pinpoint the issue. Meanwhile, I opened win10 Guest VM and I am online ok, so this connection issues seems to be limited to something in fedora update. I plan to run a different linux distro next to see if connects. Any ideas about fedora failure to connect??

EDIT update: I spent a few hours with chatgpt trying various tweaks to get fedora online but nothing worked. Upside: now running Debian 12 and it updated and online aok as are win10_VMs.

It seems like the recent updates might have caused the issue. Try to rollback the updates using the command "dnf history undo last". If this doesn't work, check if the network service is running using "systemctl status NetworkManager.service". If it's not, start it using "systemctl start NetworkManager.service". Also, ensure your VM network settings are correct.

UPDATE: chatgpt tells me fedora updates between May 14 - 20 did create network online connection issues, and that fedora has issued a patch along with a couple of other issues to check including an issue with Mullvad vpn locking up the system. Can't really complain this is the first bug issue I've had with fedora after using it for several months. Running Debian the past 2 days, also has Gnome desktop keeps it "simple" for me. I may install Debian on my hardware come October...

UPDATE2: fedora is updated 22 May and its internet connection is fixed and working again. Working with VMware fedora Guest, and chatgpt, fedora made it easy to get this fixed. According to chatgpt, fedora acknowledged the problem and issued a fix. The experience was relatively painless :D
