Flash Player finally gets automatic updates final flash topic for you ..

Flash Player finally gets automatic updates : on geek.com : http://www.geek.com/articles/news/flash-player-finally-gets-automatic-updates-20120329/

'Version 11.2.202.228, of the ubiquitous plug-in finally introduces an automatic update option — at least if you’re using a Windows computer. A preferences screen is presented once the installation completes, and users can choose whether to let Flash Player keep itself updated, receive notifications, or disable all update checking and surf with reckless abandon.' ..

Hmm, I don't want this for me, because I don't want the extra process in the background.;) probably ..

I had same thoughts as well as prefer to install manually to begin with. So i chose it to tell me when there are updates, so i can do so.

Now why couldn't they thought of that a while ago. Much better then manually update it or waiting for the popup to appear.

Another great thing about using Chrome, instead of standalone Flash Player.

Need Help Understanding?

Installs an extra service? .. Yes
Is it running? .. No.

It uses Task Scheduler to enable service to check for updates. It's set to Manual, so it won't start on boot.

I just noticed in my Event log that despite I choosing Flash not to check for updates, their update service gets a start after starting the computer. Does anyone knows how to get rid of this thing? If it cant be done, I might uninstall Flash and only install it in a dedicated sandbox when I need it.

Bo

Delete it from your Scheduled Tasks and disable it from your Windows Services.

Thanks.:D

Thank you!:D

I had the same issue as Bo. (Why do I hate Adobe?)

Anyway, I went into scheduled tasks and deleted the task.

Also, in PrivateFirewall I set anything and everything to do with the "updater" to "deny". (One nice thing about having a Firewall/HIPS/Process Monitor.)

I also disabled the service within Windows.

I can't say that I'm surprised that even though I elected "do not check for updates" it still sets up a scheduled task to check hourly!

I confirmed this again this morning after installing the update on my wife's laptop.

Pretty sad, really.

Even though I checked never to check for updates at time of installation and made sure never to check for updates was checked in settings, Adobe kept looking for an update.

Lies from Adobe.

There is absolutely no excuse for it, Bo.

To be forced to take the steps enumerated above just to enforce the option (which we elected) to not have them intrude upon our right to control our computer's operating systems is unconscionable in my humble opinion.

I hope that someone will find a way to hold their feet to the fire via legal action.

Not a good thing, beside of gave scary tactics it adds unnecessary processes and files on a system when accidentally installed.

Doesn't surprise me, they have been pushing crapware for awhile now, finally users are starting to take notice of it. Usually the crapware is selected by default, you have to manually unselect it.

That's why I prefer to use Alternative Flash Player Auto Updater, it just installs the flash updates silently with no crap included. Hardly uses any system resources and no system services or scheduled tasks.

Thanks.:D
