The Mozilla Foundation has updated the roadmap for its Firefox browser. It plans to release Firefox 4, 5, 6 and 7 in 2011 – an ambitious goal, with Firefox 4 already more than six months in development and having had its release date put back.
The Firefox development community appears to be reacting to increased competition from Chrome. Google has kept up a rapid tempo for new versions, having recently released version 9. The roadmap concedes that if it wants to achieve a more rapid release rate, Mozilla is going to have to improve its internal organisation, for example by, improving add-on compatibility.
