I am not sure how it is Taiwanese. The development of Trend Micro (the faithful programmers writing code) are and have been in China for many years. Majority of the headquarter activities are in the US. A lot of the R&D (specially around UX and all the visible product parts) is in the UK but the final task of writing the HTML, CSS and JS is still offloaded to Chinese guys.

CyberLink is a software company that is fully Taiwanese and lately it has been less than successful.

It seems like Taiwan’s software industry is currently being kept afloat solely by CyberLink. I know their pricing is way too high—every year they just push you to pay for an upgrade, which I simply choose to ignore. Taiwan is dominated by hardware OEM/ODM; for instance, my junior from school works at a well-known SSD company, writing firmware for controllers.

He’s at work every single day, including Saturdays and Sundays. When I asked him why, he said he doesn’t want to stay late on weekdays, so he spreads the workload across the entire week just so he can squeeze in a trip to the gym after work. I think this reflects the plight of the Taiwanese people, doesn't it? Our software industry is struggling so much that most of the talent ends up being drained into either CyberLink or Trend Micro.
