If I ever want to switch to free security setup this would be my choice.

For Me & My Suggestion: avast! Free + Windows Firewall + Smart Screen + UAC + AdGaurd + DoNotTrackMe + WOT + LastPass + K9 Web-Protection + VirusTotal Scanner + Secunia PSI + MalwareBytes Anti-Exploit + OnDemand Scanner

Setting For Above Apps:

  • avast! Free: Enable Hardened Mode & PUP Detection.
  • AdGuard: Enabled Malicious Web-Blocking.
  • K9 Web-Protection: Customize it how you want.
  • OnDemand Scanner: MalwareBytes | Hitman Pro | EEK etc...

Please Instead of Posting which free av you will use please post the whole security setup you would use if you ever want to switch to free security setup

Essentially it's to do with the way the LastPass login system works, there are for example 'account recovery' options such as "One Time Password" which allows you to change your master password if you forget it. This may allow your passwords to be recovered by a malicious third party (it's fairly easy to spoof a phone number for sms verification for example). What I like about PasswordBox is that you have a master password which acts as your decryption key and this is never stored so if you lose your master password (or if a malicious third party doesn't know what this is), it's much more difficult to access your data (impossible for an average user / hackers etc).
If you want a free secure password manager try "the passguard"

No joke because back then was the issue with Dr Web and stealing signatures + virustotal. His software is not sign. There is a difference between him and others.

IMO thats not an excuse, regardless if Tir AV has done or done not their product is still sound and developing.
Keep in mind some of the biggest names on the market have made similar mistakes in the past and you are not asking them for the source are you?

For example i do have my own company and i develop my own software, do you really think that i would be sharing my patent pending source code? really? You must be losing the plot here (With all do respect)
If you do not trust a piece of software then just do not use it, or use it till proven otherwise.
That being said i am not going to reopen the Tir Av discussion here but i will say this: Its between Tir AV and MT and you, me and all others do not have a part in this. And as long nothing has been proven or debunked none has the right to say or claim anything about it.

Just saying.

The stealing issue still persists, the difference is that Tiranium uses its own proxy servers.

Really i was hoping things would be solved.

I don't understand why people talk if they don't do their own research and see what is what.

Ok so back to the topic, I wanted to make a similar one but this one it is good for this.
Free products are getting better and better, 360 Internet Security is very, very good. Why should people buy other products that are not that good ? if we look there is also Panda Cloud. And "Tiranium Internet Security" (I know people are touchy about this product and talk without thinking), but there is a few products that use Virus Total as "detection" like "Regrun reanimator" so it is not something new. There are also free products that people don't really like but they have good detection like: UnThreat (vipre engine), ForiClient.

Well yes free products are getting better and better, however paid products are in their own right getting better and better to.
Now i know there are millions of comments to make about free versus paid however fact is that Free programs do offer a minimal baseline protection where paid products go a step further.
That being said if Internet Security Brand X works for me, it might not work for you as your config and habits might be different so its mostly user pref in many ways.
However the comment that some AV vendors are not that good just because they failed a test does not mean they are bad because there is so much more to it then just detection and removal.
Your OS, System, Software and overall security and the general state of your PC is large factor as well.
Not to mention the understanding and knowhow by the end user. For example some Symantec, Sophos products are aimed at IT specialists and not at the average home user who does not know what a alert or warning means so the product did not fail but the user failed to understand what the program has been telling him or her.

And there are more reasons and valid comments to make but the bottom line is if you got all your computer eggs in one basket then any of the AV brands will provide you with exactly the same end level of protection.
So disregarding crappy oneday fly products there is no bad antivirus there is only a bad user.

That being said i invite you to read my guides and i am sure you will agree with me.

No Avast recommended anymore, it causes slowndowns.
So,
Windows security (UAC full, smartscreen, Windows firewall), Avira free, Norton ConnectSafe (DNS), K9 Web Protection, AdGaurd.
..And one third party scanner like MBAM free, Hitman pro as well as Secunia PSI app for updating apps is a good plus.
Simple, effective, not bloated, non intrusive and realistic setup for most people out there.

FortiClient just copies detections from ESET.
Here's a list of real AVs: http://www.kernelmode.info/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=3226#p22583
Regarding Tiranium: Do you think it's fair to use technologies of other vendors?

Some MT members suggest everyone to use Window built AV & firewall & when i check their security config, they r using third party AV/security products, it's make me laugh
happy-smiley05.gif

Anyways back in track, the one which u feel comfortable try it, even me or others will suggest you to use random products, u will later change ur mind & using another security products.

@Malware1 No disrespect intended buddy:)

The Real AV list:
Avast
Dr.Web
ESET
Kaspersky
Microsoft
Symantec

This is the biggest BS ever.
So the poster on the other forum claims:

Trentmicro, Sophos, F-Secure, Grisoft, Mcafee, Bitdefender, Avira, FRISK just to name a older few household names that these are no real AV developers and Vendors? You got to be kidding me right?
Just because some of them target viruses and some of them target spyware? I am not sure which brainless genius wrote that topic but may i remind you about the fact that Symantec, Sophos, Kaspersky, Mcafee, Trentmicro, F-Secure, Frisk, Grisoft all started as anti virus only software? While firewall and anti spyware/malware and such where later additions? I agree that some brands do remove viruses better then malware/spyware but that list is just plain birdflu madness by a person who has ZERO brain.

Also the next comment in that forum:

Their technology level:
ability to recognize, emulate, unpack, and remove something more serious than joking viruses from MSDOS or 7 years old lolkits

Their infrastructure:
ability to quickly process large amounts of data worldwide

Their R&D:
ability to track current malware trends and develop quick response for it, and not write about something months old like for example chronical slowpokes from F-Secure with their comedy section Sirefef/TDSS discoveries

Hmm so the names i mentioned do not have their own infrastructure? lmao amazing... what a bull. I Do hope that one of the AV developers here in the forum does see this info.
I am sure someone will go ballistic then lmao... omg facepalm fail.

All listed AV above not perfect but they are far away as the stars in the sky from anything else installed on VT.
No disrespect to VT but while its a great site they really need to get rid of the Asian and Onedayfly scanners from obscure brands and they need to kick brands that use licensed last year generation engines.

The current antimalware companies trend is to provide sophisticated fake service giving a false sense of security (through fake products and delirium publications) and since last time they started using their users database as a part of mass media campaigns. There is no big difference between malware and antimalware in general. They all - potentially unwanted applications.

Well this comment actually does make some sense as this is sadly true for some vendors.

Alright granted i was a bit harsh in this comment (forgive me please:) But generally the guy is sprouting BS on that forum, and again no disrespect intended.
But there are so many people who did hear the bells ring without knowing where the clock itself is that this has to stop.
Everyday people are being misinformed and we all here on MT have to deal with that.
If we all want to educate and help people then at least lets try to make a effort by posting true topic's and info.
Because a topic like this with such a comment will trow people of guard.
I mean i was eating my soup and i nearly chocked in it when i did read it lol.

Cheers

Most vendors don't check anything, but just copy paste detections.
Yes thats 100% true buddy.
Btw again you know i respect you right? It was not directed at you the previous comment.
Anyway to get back what you said yes its true many just copy past and imo they should be kicked out of the market and leave the work to the real deal.
And the list on VT is a clear example.
Same goes for those asian and oneday fly Av brands, people trust them while they are getting screwed imo.
But then who am i to say such thing... lmao./
