Heimdal Pro feedback

So the official MT giveaway for Heimdal Pro just ended, and while I didn't win, I managed to get a key elsewhere. In any case, I felt it necessary to start up a general feedback thread for people who have been testing it over the past couple of days. My initial feelings are "WHOA, LIGHT". I literally don't feel it at all. There's an auto-patching system which basically automatically updates a lot of key software -- such as Adobe, CCleaner, browsers, iTunes, videoplayers, SKYPE, winrar (and varients), etc. Kind of cool, and I like that it actually updates to the most up-to-date version, unlike a lot of auto-patching software I've used in the past which would DOWNGRADE your version and cause problems (vulnerabilities).

It's constantly scanning your internet traffic to protect from zero-day exploits, ransomeware, malware, and even protects you while you do online banking. What's also great is that it's compatible with most antiviruses and firewalls. In fact, the objective is to prevent threats from even getting to your main line of defense (AV/Firewall). AND DID I SAY LIGHT? I find that to be so important because if it's going to act WITH your other security software, it's extremely important that it doesn't drag my system down. All in all, I'm intrigued, if nothing else. Where is everyone else's head at?

Edit: I'd be curiuos to know what other security software (AV/Firewall) you're using alongside Heimdal Pro, as that question has already been raised as to compatibility.

The DNS protection I personal see as very important and it works great. The importance of updating/patch other software is IMO one of it's strongest feature and worked flawless so far but even if supposed to protect a machine direct localy against malicious code I still havent seen any " Live " tests on that.

One word of caution; as this software downloads the updates in the background, it can slow down your net connection. Also, if you have limited data net connection it can use up a lot of data.

Thanks for starting this thread @Noxx. I see there are quite a few sites now promoting the 3 day Heimdal Pro 12 month free licences offer. Anyway got a key and I'll report back. Initial impressions are it's not particularly light, not for me anyway, but this is on a nearly 7 year old 32 bit machine. There appear to be 3 processes totalling about 80 megs, that's way more than Panda AV and ZoneAlarm firewall combined. CPU usage seems pretty high too. Click on Config for the rest of my security setup. I've disabled MBAE to avoid conflicts - don't know if I need to disable anything else.

PS - I can't get traffic filtering to stay on. Also CPU usage briefly but frequently peaking at 100%. I'll give it a go again tomorrow but it's looking far too resource heavy.

Interesting. It runs fairly light on my end. Like anything else, it comes down to individual computers, internet speeds, etc. Performance is very important to me, but security is even more important. That's why I'm pretty much aiming for the middle, as I imagine most others are too. May I ask what other security programs you're attempting to use Heimdal alongside of? You mentioned Panda AV and ZoneAlarm, but I wasn't sure if you were using them all together.

With web filtering and DNS enabled it's pretty light for me, and I didn't notice any slowdowns at all. But sometimes there's a little bit of CPU consumption (only ~2%) and the RAM consumption isn't constant, too. Sometimes it jumps up to ~150mb.

But what I'm really curious about is the value of protection it offers, so it would be extremely nice of one of you reviewers here if you could make a short test against some malware and also phishing links.

To make sure the product is working properly, I suggest going to this website: Heimdal Security - Not Blocked Page
It should be blocked by Heimdal Pro v.2

Heimdal Free and Pro
"- if you have Heimdal PRO installed, with all its features turned on (traffic scanning included), you should get his message, on a red background:

Heimdal Security has blocked this page.

The web location you are trying to access may trigger phishing attempts or contain malicious content which could affect your system."

Last time I uninstalled heimdal is due to heavy resource they consumed. heimdal has more than one service in system tray and sometimes RAM consumption is quite high. However, I hope it's improve over time.

So far it is great.

But, the problems I encounter:
1. Heimdal.Agent.exe consumes CPU all the time whenever I open its GUI. Even if I close using "x" that process is consuming CPU. What tames it is closing it through the taskbar.

2. Sometimes, WmiPrvSE.exe consumes at least 10% CPU every 10 seconds. If this happens, this seems to continue forever.

3. I cannot whitelist a site without contacting the company first. This means that when Heimdal PRO blocks a site that is very important for you to read or watch right now, then you can't do anything about it until you contact the company (may take time to respond) or uninstall the program.

Well, i have it installed with Kaspersky. Everything is very light & smooth for now as i only have the patching enabled.
All the others i don't feel like enabling as kaspersky is doing great in all other fields. If i get to see heimdal pro in action then i will consider enabling all the protections but for now i am happy with the way it is.
