Hello,

I unknowingly downloaded some malware on my computer when downloading a ROM for a sega genesis emulator. I have troubleshooted this problem to the best of my ability, but the sale charger is not gone from my computer. Any assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
S

Fix with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

Running it on another one may cause damage and render the system unstable.

Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop:

Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!

  • Right-click on
    FRST.gif
    icon and select
    RunAsAdmin.jpg
    Run as Administrator to start the tool.
    (XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
  • Press the Fix button just once and wait.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  • When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.

Please attach it to your reply.

  • In the main box please paste in the following script:
    Code:
    createsrpoint;
    autoclean;
    emptyalltemp;
    ipconfig /flushdns;b
  • Make sure that Scan All Users option is checked.
  • Push Run Script and wait patiently. The scan may take a couple of minutes.
  • When the scan completes, a zoek-results logfile should open in notepad.
  • If a reboot is needed, it will be opened after it. You may also find it at your main drive (usually C:\ drive)

Thanks for the help. See attached for the 2 files. The only thing that did not go exactly as you described was the automatic save location of the fixlog.txt file. It saved to my downloads folder and not the desktop, even though I had the FRST.txt and fixlist.txt files saved to the desktop.

Upon further investigation, Chrome is still affected, but Firefox and IE appear to be working normally. I reset Chrome and deleted the current user data but it did not remove Sale Charger from chrome.

I just did the add/remove program function for Chrome then re-installed it. I guess that did the trick because it appears to be working normally now. I will be away from my computer for the next couple of hours. If you have any other thoughts or recommendations please let me know. If not thank you so much for your help, and as a token of my thanks, I will provide a donation when I return later today.

Cheers,
S

Everything seems to work fine. For those with the same problem that happen to read this thread, chrome was the browser that the malware was originally downloaded on. After all these steps, and deleting/reinstalling chrome, the sale charger has been removed.

Thanks! (and check your paypal)
