I guess I should explain my situation so my way of thinking is not misunderstood. I have wireless. Sometimes it is decent. But usually I am tickled to death if I can download a movie via NetFlix in under 2 hours. That is rare. So that is why I am so adamant about the supply side being there regardless how much is being downloaded by my neighbors or people 10 miles away. I am already penalized without having my monthly usage capped to 3 Gigs, or something similarly ridiculous. If providers/servers cannot keep up, they need to stop whining an charge more. Then they can take that money and build a better infrastructure instead of nagging or punishing users further, and hoarding cash while complaining that we "USE" too much.
Ever notice how it is ALWAYS the users fault? Not the host, servers, or uploaders? Funny how that works. I call it LACK OF ACCOUNTABILITY and being generally irresponsible by not meeting your customers needs.

Now if some jerk is downloading 1 TB a day, or 10 GB a day, or something like that, I can see where they need to be slapped around a little. I understand that, but the lower end of those data amounts are very necessary for some users, esp. for business needs, and many businesses put a heavy load on the servers, and they simply cannot stop doing business because ISP's and servers cannot keep up. That is when it is time for some upgrades for the customers.

The biggest problem with wireless, is that 90% of people don't have sense enough to lock their smart phones out of the router that they use for their PC's. That in itself causes huge traffic jams. I have tweaked all of my neighbors routers to force their smart phones to use the AT&T tower, instead of the primary wireless ISP tower. I wish everyone around here would do that.

I get 6 GB of data per month on my Android phone Aussie prepaid (no plan) so when I am out and about my laptop
it is tethered to my phone's data, when I am at home my laptop hooks up with my router and my phone becomes a loner again

I try and stay away from phone internet, as it would go really fast for me. Always try and do everything at home.

So I am thinking that my wireless ISP is so crappy, tweaking my browser with this method would probably not help anyway. I have bigger fish to fry. LOL

I think some get used to using one version of a browser with all the extensions they have been accustomed to.New versions change the look and feel and some extensions arent compatible with newer releases.So,they opt to stick with what they are used to.From a security standpoint you should upgrade your browser,since this is the reason for many updates.
This is latest version Firefox :

Type about:config in the firefox address bar, Then look for the following entries, and make the corresponding changes.

network.http.max-connections-per-server =32
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy =16
network.http.max-connections = 64
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server = 10
network.http.pipelining = true
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests = 200
network.http.request.max-start-delay = 0

Lastly right-click anywhere and select New- Integer. Name it nglayout.initialpaint.delay and set its value to 0. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.that's all.now you can browse internet with more speed.
