Advice Request Huh? Asked to turn over my email address

[codswollip]

Received an email today from someone claiming that they once held my email address, but lost it due to a changed password. They asked if I would let them have it.

Hmmm... so the word "scam" immediately flashed in my mind, but a quick web search came up empty.

Any thoughts about this? FWIW, I've held this account pretty much since free email accounts existed. It's not a particularly clever or fashionable address that would have a commercial value.

I wonder why they care now, after they lost the address. If it was that important why didn't they do anything earlier and call support if they lost the password.

No matter if this is legit or not, I wouldn't risk it.

That is a fabrication on their part. This address is too old for that. Over 20 years.

I suspect this is the first phish to an identity theft scenario.
