What is Huntress as an MDR?

What does it do when it manages Windows Defender?

In what way is it similar to an EDR and how does it differ from an EDR?

Huntress is a Managed Detection and Response (MDR) service that provides threat detection, incident response, and compliance management. When managing Windows Defender, it utilizes its built-in antivirus capabilities while adding its own layer of security to detect and respond to threats.

Huntress shares some similarities with Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) in terms of detecting and responding to threats. However, while EDR focuses more on real-time monitoring and response, MDR like Huntress provides a more comprehensive approach, including proactive threat hunting, 24/7 monitoring, and incident response services.

Thanks! I'm currently running Huntress as a trial.

The only thing I don't see on the dashboard is having it manage a third party AV apart from Windows Defender.

They will only manage Windows Defender and the Windows Firewall.
