Over the last year, I have tried many of the great recommendation from you nice people here at MWT's.

But I finally decided on Avast. My reasons are as follows:

1). It's VERY light and responsive on my PC. (including file transfers, which is my only complaint with MSD)

2). Avast has been around forever and with the merger of Avira, Norton, AVG, and Bullguard, I'm sure it is only gotten better, and with the mediation during the merger, that allowed Avast to continue on with it's own trademarks and traditions, i.e. hands off, even after the merger. I chose it over the others.

3). The settings allow "don't bug me", which I like a lot.

4). The mini version of CCleaner/AVG Tune-up, to turn off apps in the background until needed was really nice, and all that without the bloat.

* Lastly I don't mind supporting software manufacturers via a subscription, who make a great product, this goes for Macrium also... They, like us, have to work, get paid, in order to live.

Great to hear you've found a security solution that works for you! Avast indeed has a long-standing reputation and the features you've mentioned certainly make it a strong choice. Thanks for sharing your experience and reasoning, it'll definitely help others in their decision-making process.

Tried Avast One basic before.

Adv
1. Good detection
2. Average RAM usage
3. Small updates
4. Nice and easy to navigate interface

Disadv
1. Behavioral protection is just behind K and B
2. RAM usage is more than old Avast
3. FW doesn't have ask mode and you can't delete any created app FW rule; not the case with old avast
4. No dark mode (I have Parkinson disease which makes me suffer with white background)

Sorry for your troubles, I can see how the non-dark is an issue.

Luckily most of us, don't have to deal with that, and thus we get to make choices that are difficult for you. Sorry again,

I agree dark would be nice, but with all the other advantages, it works for me.

Hope others find it as nice and useful as I have.

UPDATE:

I ran into a couple snags, with Avast One. It was the frequent "hi we did this, and hi would you like to..." *My translation not necessarily accurate... This is even after making changes in the settings.

So then I went with AVG IS, since I had an old unused license. I then needed to install AVG Tune-Up to replace the light version in Avast One.

2 days in and no problems from AVG, same speed or faster than Avast one... Must not be an exact clone of Avast, judging by AVG's behavior.
