A few hours ago Intel released their Quarterly income numbers which on the whole disappointed. The real news is that once again Intel has once more delayed production of a CPU based on 7nm die technology. This should have come as no great surprise as the Big Dummies at Intel still hasn't even fully made the transition to 10nm from 14nm CPU's.

AMD on the other hand already HAS a 7nm CPU being produced and sold in Laptops, and has also just announced that a desktop 5nm CPU (the Ryzen 4000 series) will be released in the 3rd quarter of 2020. Although these chips will initially be only OEM (not a boxed version with a loud fan) at first, this should be no issue to the true Geek (I never have bought a boxed CPU and I'm a girl!).

But for those that may want to know, the jump to 7nm from 10 or 14nm is a big deal as this will result in a more powerful chip running at a lower thermal design point (TDP). The flagship AMD Ryzen 4700G (Zen2) has 8 cores/16 threads an runs at a base frequency of 3.6GHz with a boost to 4.45 GHz- all this with a TDP of 65W. The 4000 series will have the Renoir APU which is clocked at 2100MHz on the graphics side.

Oh yeah- the estimated price of the Ryzen 4700G OEM part is gonna be about 300USD.

Anyway, the bad Intel report coupled with the AMD news has caused Intel to shed 10% of its value (about 25 BILLION USD) in after hours trading this evening. while AMD has gained about 8% from its low today.

Could we be seeing the end of Intel as the monster it once was?

I should have added that the "dog" of the new Ryzen 4000G series is the 4300G which (only!) runs at 3800 base with a 4000 turbo boost; the APU has a frequency of 1700MHz. This guy has a estimated price of 140USD for the OEM.

AND there will also be a "GE" line of CPU's that have a TDP of 35w.

(Fun Fact- with today's Intel decline, Nvidia is now the Number 1 US Chipmaker with a market cap of 256 billion USD).

Panic most likely. There are some comments after the article already.☕ The latest cpu lineup names are a hot mess. All those letters, can't hold it together.
