iPhone 15's overheating problem is yet to cool down and another issue has started making rounds on social media platforms. Multiple users reported that the NFC chip stopped working on their brand new iPhone 15 units after charging the devices with the wireless charging pad on their BMW cars (via MacRumors).

As per reports, a "Could Not Set Up Apple Pay" error message appears in the Wallet app on the affected devices due to the issue, whose exact cause is yet to be determined. For the uninitiated, the NFC (Near-field Communication) chip on iPhones powers various features like Apple Pay and digital car keys.

MacRumors notes that a majority of complaints related to the issue are from iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max owners. But there is a chance the regular iPhone 15 and 15 Plus could be prone to the issue. It's not known which BMW models are affected due to the issue.

Apple just released iOS 17.1.1, and it has fixes for a couple notable bugs that have popped up recently.

One bug was pretty bad. Some users had reported that if they tried to charge their iPhone 15 using BMW’s in-car wireless charging, certain NFC features like Apple Pay or BMW’s digital car key would break. BMW’s UK account on X (formerly Twitter) confirmed in October that the issues were “being investigated together with Apple.” An Apple service memo reported on by MacRumors said the issue happened when charging an iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, or iPhone 15 Pro Max in some BMW and Toyota Supra cars.

The other bug was more harmless: on the lock screen weather widget, the snow icon was sometimes showing up as just a file icon.
Here are Apple’s full patch notes for iOS 17.1.1:
This update provides bug fixes for your iPhone including:
In rare circumstances, Apple Pay and other NFC features may become unavailable on iPhone 15 models after wireless charging in certain cars
Weather Lock Screen widget may not correctly display snow

Apple released a handful of other software updates on Tuesday as well to address some bugs, as reported by MacRumors. watchOS 10.1.1 fixes an issue that caused unexpectedly fast battery drain. HomePod 17.1.1 addresses an issue with slow (or failed) Siri responses. macOS Sonoma 14.1.1 and new firmware for the Beats Fit Pro and ‌Powerbeats Pro are available, too.
