Advice Request Just another SSD defrag test

Please provide comments and solutions that are helpful to the author of this topic.

Alrighty, never defrag an SSD(or m.2).
Did some test with couple of Defraggers on an m.2 drive, then i ran crystaldisk mark test.
I used Perfectdisk, forced to use my M.2 drive as an HDD and ran "Smartplacement Aggressive" method on it.
Then booted the system and then ran SSD Optimize on the same drive.
Crystal Disk Mark shows (about 10-15% write/read speeds) before. Hows that possible? On an M.2 drive it mean 100-200mb/s more speed.

I have read before of someone seeing a performance increase after defragging their SSD.

While I don't feel the need to defrag my SSDs, It's important to note that defragging a SSD is safe to do and will not kill the drive, despite what many people claim.

o&o defrag can do so called zone filing. So you can actually place your personal files and folders, maybe for example steam folder to the faster side on the SSD(HDD). It really works, actually when using HDD. As for SSD system drive file placement, well, seems to be faster, when its based on the layoyt.ini(windows) or the mighty defragger can handle which system files are placed on the faster side.

And thanks, roger_m, i bought a license of Kerish Doctor while ago, for me, my mum and for my sister. Because of your recommendations in Wilderssecurity! Really good software. Thanks a lot.

I do some testing with oo defrag zone filing:
c:\windows\*
c:\program files\g data\*
c:\steam\*
would that "zone filing" make my AV load and steam games load faster even on an SSD because of file/folder placement?

While I don't feel the need to defrag my SSDs, It's important to note that defragging a SSD is safe to do and will not kill the drive, despite what many people claim.
That because most defrag tools simply trim the SSD, they don't defrag... Actually defragging an SSD is wasting I/O of it's lifespan (and won't help in performance whasoever, since it uses flash).

But, just wondering...is it wise to still do "smartplacement" of the system files and after that do Trim? Like i said my previous post, it does help according to crystal disk mark test. OO defrag works in this situation, when you place "your av" folder in outer edge it loads faster.
So install Perfectdisk, then do "drive as an HDD", then do aggressive placement. Boot. Then do SSD Optimize, then run crystal disk mark. Fer me it was 100-200 more read speed. Strange?

O&O Defrag v22 added a new SOLID defrag mode, which supports defragging of SSDs. I have no idea how well it works.

You're welcome. Yes, it is excellent software and the only cleaning/optimization software I reinstalled when I did a clean install of Windows 10 a few days ago.

That because most defrag tools simply trim the SSD, they don't defrag... Actually defragging an SSD is wasting I/O of it's lifespan (and won't help in performance whasoever, since it uses flash).
I have read about someone doing an actual defrag on their SSD and it improved peformance slightly. But I'm sure that at best, the performance gains from defragging a SSD will be minimal.

Here's the Crystaldisk Mark results, base system:

Sequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) : 1002.696 MB/s
Random Read 4KiB (Q= 8,T= 8) : 1084.017 MB/s [ 264652.6 IOPS]
Random Write 4KiB (Q= 8,T= 8) : 790.950 MB/s [ 193103.0 IOPS]
Random Read 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 302.537 MB/s [ 73861.6 IOPS]
Random Write 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 220.408 MB/s [ 53810.5 IOPS]
Random Read 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 41.228 MB/s [ 10065.4 IOPS]
Random Write 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 103.275 MB/s [ 25213.6 IOPS]

And the results with O&O Defrag (using COMPLETE/Access then reboot, then SOLID defrag and trim)

Don't defrag or full optimise SSD everyday since its not needed. Best way Tilleroftheearth from NBR forums told everyone, is to Full defrag an SSD after Clean install w/ all your apps and settings. Hopefully it will last for a year or two with same performance. I actually did a defrag and then use contig from sysinternals to make all data on contiguous for new files thereby keeping SSD in peak state always.
You should use Samsung NVMe drivers too.

Again reboot without defrag and run the same test. I am 80% sure it's because you rebooted not because of defrag.
