Hello there,

First things first: If Kaspersky works for you, then there's no need to change. We got a clear point here. Thing is i don't feel it's working the best for me. Recent issues i've not been liking about Kaspersky:

  • Application Control delaying software installation/removal
  • Lack of firewall notifications
  • Lack of notifications when software tries to create connections with a website/server (BitDefender does this)

I will still be using Kaspersky until my license is over, but i want to be informed for when the time arrives.

I've been having a look at BitDefender and i've been very pleased with the results i've seen. I'm wishing to hear your experiences with this product if they have been recent. Basically, what i need is it to be user-dependant, e.g notify me for everything and make me aware of everything that's happening on the background, a decent customizable firewall and great dynamic (on-execution) protection. I want it to be customizable and have great variety of options to play with and achieve maximum protection.

Thank you for reading.

I voted 'both', as both seems pretty capable to me on all fronts. I installed BTS on my brother's laptop and it seemed a bit lighter to me, however that's just my experience and your's may vary. I really like the autopilot in BD, but sometimes I wish it was a bit more customizable.
If KIS is giving issues, you can always install a trial version of BD and see how it goes.

both will protect you well.
At default settings I think Bitdefender has an edge.. in my experience Bitdefender was for the most part smooth and light while others found it heavy and buggy ..
I never felt comfy with Kaspersky, performance-wise. I do like Kaspersky, but it always seemed to slow my system down throughout the years .. earlier before the 2016 version, I couldn't bear it , after that, came 2016 and 17, and while it was lighter , it somehow managed to slow the system down a bit after days has passed .
now 2018 is the lightest kaspersky to date but I find it a bit too much.

Now if I really want to advice someone from the heart, without sacrificing protection or performance , I'd tell them to go with Emsisoft AM or Norton.
trial them both, and check them out yourself , Norton is by far the lightest, and Emsisoft is very light and by far my favorite . and BOTH are TOP NOTCH.

I am in doubt myself for when my renovation time comes next year... Bitdefender is way cheaper in my country and the Autopilot mode seems ideal for the kids' computer. I'm not a risky surfer in the net so all the extra layers of protection from Kaspersky go unused most of the time... I haven't tested any Bitdefender product in these last two years and have no idea how they would behave in my home computers...

So would you recommend Bitdefender for a kids computer so that I do not have to stop what I'm doing every 5 minutes to help the kids? :)

If you're after a software that is user-dependent, I don't think Bitdefender is really a good option; it's quite the opposite and by default Bitdefender's auto-pilot decides everything. Also, Bitdefender is not so good in terms of settings, not many options. I would recommend you to stick with Kaspersky. Or as some others have mentioned, you can try other software.

I have subscriptions to 3 security suites (Norton Security/BDTS/KIS) and find KIS to be very good. Responsive and does not slow my internet connectivity. BDTS/BDIS does that for some inexplicable reason. I'm a long time user of Norton as it works very well for me.

But recent negative reports about Kaspersky Labs possibly spying on users, probably with a gun held to their head (courtesy of you know who) as they wouldn't do it of their own volition, made me uninstall it. Waste of a subscription but I wouldn't want to take chances with a backdoor into my PCs.

If I were you I'd keep this backdoor bit in mind before paying for a subscription.

Kaspersky isn't spying you, that reports are just political game from US Government ;)

I don't discount that possibility but, at the same time, I don't want to turn this into a discussion on global politics. :)

That's why I recommended a potential buyer keep this in mind. A majority of modern applications have some form of telemetry to their publishers but the difference here is the potential chance of a backdoor which is a different ballgame.

Would I renew my subscription? Nopes, at least until an independent security specialist reviews the code (keeping Kaspersky's IP confidential) and can assure customers there's no backdoor. Kaspersky should arrange for this in the interests of their customers & business.

I guess this thread (and doubts) is because the last results of AV-C Real World Protection Test August...:alien:
Hahaha, nah. I take those as irrelevant almost. Anyways, Kaspersky did well enough on that test top 5 i think. I could even use Adaware and probably not get infected... It's all here *points his mechanical wired circuits on the brain*

You may want to look something like Avast's Agressive Mode or maybe VoodooShield to keep them off installing software. And protect the browser with extensions to avoid infection by malvertising.
