In this video, we will compare two leaders in IT security: Kaspersky and McAfee.
Both antivirus programs use the same protocol: URL, malware pack with various types of malware (Trojans, infostealers, exploits via JS/VBS, viruses, worms, etc.).
No fake cracks, I don't have any more at the moment.
Let's see if our two challengers can clean up the machine!

URL test :

- Kaspersky : Kaspersky blocks all malicious URLs (9/9)
URL number 5 is a false positive—a cleaner belonging to Kingsoft. Ignored.
- McAfee : McAfee blocks all malicious URLs - 9/9
URL number 5 is a false positive—a cleaner belonging to Kingsoft. Ignored.

Malware Pack :

- Kaspersky : Kaspersky leaves 21 files out of 85, which is a good score.
Upon launch, Kaspersky lets 1 file through (it tries to slow down the machine, I have trouble launching a file at one point, but everything calms down after that).
Two others will launch but will not perform any action; one is a hack tool and the other is a PUP that the web protection will block.

- McAfee : McAfee leaves 7 out of 85 files; its engine is ahead of Kaspersky.
Upon launch, McAfee will miss the N-Able remote control tool, which will install all of its friends without any reaction (such as AlertaAgent).
A script will also attempt to pass, but McAfee will block the final payload.

SOS scan :

- Kaspersky : 0 / NPE : 6 (PUP)
- McAfee : 0 / NPE : 0 / KVRT : 0 (Defender Control - Ignored)

Conclusion: Both antivirus programs perform very well and have proven to be equally effective!
It's a tie: both antivirus programs have one piece of malware in memory (Kaspersky has one file, while McAfee has one active process created by N-Able).
Both are highly recommended, and it's a tie!

I've been thoroughly impressed by McAfee's dramatic improvements, both in detection and performance. I liked it well enough to rely on it exclusively for three months. Kaspersky, meanwhile, has enjoyed a long reputation of excellence—no surprise that it did well.

Thank you for enriching the community with your work once more, Shadowra :)

If using Kaspersky, what other extra hardening or security programs do you suggest to prevent that one piece of malware?

1. Do not download from obscure websites.
2. You can use KeyScrambler, which is an excellent anti-keylogger.
3. Switch Kaspersky to Deny mode. This mode does not exist on McAfee.

For Kaspersky I would do anything. For Kaspersky i'd give it all. For it I would sail the seven seas and walk the deserts in between.
My mother gave me my life and Kaspersky's Application Control the reason to live it!

It's truly surprising to see McAfee performing on par with (or even better than) Kaspersky, which was the industry gold standard for years, especially considering McAfee used to be that pre-installed bloatware on new PCs that everyone hated.

I've been using McAfee for a few months now, influenced by the positive vibes here on the forum — especially from our friend @Trident - and I can say I'm happy with the results. I feel absolutely no impact on performance (web browsing, in particular, is super fast), and I haven't had a single false positive so far.

My only complaint was regarding pop-ups and ads, but it's been a while since I've seen any, so it's all good on my end.

As for the test, it's always great to see content produced by Shadowra. Cheers to you, my friend.

The only problem I have with McAfee is the way their license works. A generous member here on MT sent me a key and when I tried to activate it online, it told me that I needed to change to the UK store in order to activate it.

In my experience, the user experience is not the same for different locations as in the past it took ages for me to get the new version of McAfee when others (in other locations) got it fast.

Now I need to download it and see if that changed.

It would be great if others share their experience.
