Hey i just wanted a little help on buying a new laptop.I'm doing an exchange year right now.
I need a laptop for school
And I actually just want to watch movies on it and occasionally play some light games.

All I need I:
A screen 15" or 17"
Resolution HD+ or FHD
An Intel core I-5 4xxx or I-7
(Or an amd prcessor comparable to the I-5 )
At least 4 gb ram ( it should be upgradeable)

Those were the important things.
It all should cost less than 600$ 500$ would be even better since I won't use it that often

I saw this black Friday deal

http://www.microsoftstore.com/store...-Signature-Edition-Laptop/productID.308794900
(For 400$ )

I was going to buy it but my brother said for a 15" screen the 1366x768 resolution sucks.

Thanks for the help

Hmm there's the
Dell inspiron 17 5000
For 500$
And the hp pavilion
for 440$
Both of them have a screen
resolution of 1600x900
But they don't have the right processor
nor good reviews

If I don't find anything I'll buy they black Friday deal for 400$
Specs :
1tb hard drive
15" hd display
Intel core I-5 4200U
8gb ram

So I'm basically just looking for a screen improvement for 200 dollars more
Thanks for the quick reply though

500-600$ is sensitive area for laptops. Or you'll get an i7 without dedicated GPU or you get i5 with dedicated GPU.
And I recommend you to pick some laptop with 1366x768 resolution in both cases, at this price point, as GPU will work easier in games at lower resolution than FullHD. If you won't using it for games from time to time, then pick any with stronger CPU and more RAM.

@marvin I rechecked the link, and it does not have a Dedicated Graphic Card, If you are not into high-end gaming then an i5 ULV is perfect for you, it has some really good battery and life and runs quite cool, atleast mine does. Though for your monitor resolution i think it will be very hard to find a Screen with a FHD under your budget.

Edit 1: I got this for $400 i5 4200U, 8 GB RAM, 750 HDD, Nvidia 740M, monitor @ 1366x768. It runs pretty good and handles most games quite nicely. 2013 and pre 2013 games run on Ultra while post 2013 games run on low-medium high. Have used it for 4 hrs at a stretch watching movies on a flight. Overall i am pretty happy with it. So you can look for something similar give it a run maybe at Bestbuy or Walmart.

Keeping in mind your needs, I would go for something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-E5-771G-51T2-17-3-Inch-Laptop/dp/B00KCT41KO

Key Features
  • 17.3" Full Widescreen ComfyView LED-backlit Display: (1920 x 1080) resolution; 16:9 aspect ratio
  • 4th Generation Intel® Core™ i5-4210U Processor 1.7GHz with Turbo Boost Technology up to 2.7GHz
  • Windows 8.1
  • NVIDIA® GeForce® 840M with 2 GB of dedicated DDR3 VRAM
  • 8GB DDR3L SDRAM Memory
  • 1TB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
  • 8X DVD-Super Multi Double-Layer Drive (M-DISC enabled)
  • Digital Media Card Reader - Secure Digital™ (SD) Card
  • 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN
  • Bluetooth® 4.0
  • HD Webcam (1280 x 720)
  • High Definition Audio Support
  • Two Built-in stereo speakers
  • 2- USB 2.0 Ports
  • 2- USB 3.0 Ports
  • 1- HDMI™ Port with HDCP Support
  • 4-cell Lithium-Ion Battery (3220mAh)
  • Up to 5-hours battery life
  • 6.61 | 3.0kg system unit only
A good price for such a machine with an 1080p display – not an IPS, but a nice one. The GT 840M + I5 will provide some low-midrange gaming capabilities, but the high resolution, high contrast display has an advantage in movie playing and general use too.

@Jack I don't really recommend Acer, it's not bad or anything but i feel their laptops are lacking somewhat their part synergy seems to be bad, i have an Acer laptop 1st gen i5 and i have been cursing it since day 1.

Me too. Acer has great budget laptops but I wouldn't really recommended them, unless it's just the money that you're looking.

@frogboy @BoraMurdar At my place for $500 i would end up with an i3 with 4 GB RAM and maybe a GT 820M lol that's how bad the pricing is. Hence, i usually get most of my electronics from States, whenever some one's visiting :p.
For 500 bucks, the best I can get at my place is ASUS i5 4200u, Geforce 740M, 4gb of RAM and 500HDD. 15,6''.

That's practically my laptop with less RAM :p. Though in my defense i bought it a year back.
That's the main problem. Relatively new laptops (with new graphics and new processors) comes to my country with a 6-9 months of late. So for that money I pay for that I could buy the better machine with the newer GPU and CPU in the same or better range.
