This release ships with the Xfce 4.18 desktop environment and it includes support for Linux kernel 6.11.
Linux Lite creator Jerry Bezencon announced today the release and general availability of Linux Lite 7.2 as the latest stable version of this Ubuntu-based distribution using the lightweight Xfce desktop environment.
Based on the Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat) operating system series, Linux Lite 7.2 is powered by the upstream Linux 6.8 kernel, but it also supports installation of custom kernels from the Linux Lite repository up to Linux kernel 6.11 if you need support for newer hardware devices.
Highlights of this release include a new in-house Lite Theme Manager utility for adding new desktop themes, icons, and mouse cursors to your Linux Lite desktop with a few mouse clicks. It also updates the Lite Updates utility, which has been rewritten in Yad to allow the Linux Lite devs to add more options to it in the future.
Linux Lite was one of the first GNU/Linux distributions to add AI support in the form of an online real-time chatbot that allows users to obtain assistance with their Linux Lite environment. In this release, the Lite A.I. Support feature has been extended to cover more areas of the distribution.
“Linux Lite is leading the way in which AI is complementing the support portion of our operating system,” said Jerry Bezencon in the release announcement, which is a must-read for those installing Linux Lite for the first time.
Linux Lite 7.2 includes various updated default applications like the Google Chrome 130.0 web browser, Mozilla Thunderbird 115.16 email and calendar client, LibreOffice 24.2.6 office suite, GIMP 2.10.36 image editor and viewer, VLC 3.0.20 media player, and others.
You can download Linux Lite 7.2 right now from the official website. This release uses the latest Xfce 4.18 desktop environment by default, highly customized using the Materia desktop theme, Papirus icon theme, and Roboto Regular fonts.
