So I'm looking to get an offshore email service but I'm not sure who to get. Does anybody have any recommendations for a good reliable offshore service?
Proton Mail is the world’s largest secure email service with over 100 million users. Available on Web, iOS, Android, and desktop. Protected by Swiss privacy law.
These are good email providers:
- ProtonMail (Switzerland)
- Tutanota (Germany)
- Posteo (Germany)
- Mailbox.org (Germany)
- Mailfence (Germany)
- Fastmail (Australia)
From those ProtonMail, Tutanota and Fastmail are the only ones having a dedicated mobile app (Hushmail has an app as well, but only on iOS and is available in some countries only). Fastmail is less reliable privacy wise because of the new anti encryption law over there.
Tuta guarantees your data stays private for free & without ads. Quantum-resistant encryption makes Tuta the best secure technology solution to protect your privacy.
I use Unspyable's offshore email service. I've been using it for about a month and I've been happy with it, they were actually recommended to me on this forum.
1- Tutanota (because the android app which is way too useful)
2- MSGsafe (used to have a beta android app but they removed it)
3- Protonmail (android app too), but i use it less since their parent company looks shady to me.
I should have done this in prior post instead of being cutesy. I Snipped both email pages to show Adguard's number of blocked domains. Adguard is the little orange icon, Norton Safe Web is the other one. Norton's not even lit up on the Tutanota page.
I've had both Tutanota and Protonmail free emailaccounts since they started up. I've been happy with both, aside from the previously flagged up concerns over parent company of Protonmail.
Yeah and apparently Proton is owned by the same company as Nord, which tends to make me not trust them given Nord's reputation for lying to their customers.
You may check out Disroot. It's free, offers 1gb of storage, ad free, privacy friendly, has some other services as well. It supports IMAP so you can use it via email clients like Mozilla Thunderbird, Outlook mail app, etc. I'm using it for over a year now and have no complaints.
It's also one of the suggested one in PrivacyTools
Get yourself a custom domain and host your own mails or sign up to a premium plan from a privacy focused email service provider like Tutanota/Protonmail/Privatemail etc and use your custom domain for the email addresses. That way, when the email hosting provider shuts down, changes privacy policy, or you find a better one, you can move on from the old host to the new host.
Tutanota is probably the best truly secure email provider, it claims the crown over ProtonMail because of the following things:
It's open source and audited, we've been waiting years for ProtonMail to do this.
It's over 8 years old, while ProtonMail is 5 years old they've still had more of a time test.
They made a calendar in 2 months, Proton said they would make one over 2 years ago now.
It's cheap, like REALLY cheap (€12/year starting).
You get 1GB free storage but their compression makes emails 5 to 10 times smaller, so "virtually" 10GB.
They have their own clients on virtually every OS which just work.
ProtonMail like to say it's great being in Switzerland "out of EU jurisdiction" yet they're supported by the Horizon 2020 Framework Program of the EU, and their prices are just insane...
This is coming from a former Proton customer, I paid €120 for a yearly sub of mail + VPN.
