How is my security configuration?
I don't go to warez sites.I try to do a "clean surf" :P
Also I scan my pc daily with MBAM (Quick Scan) and Hitman Pro. It only takes like 10 minutes.

EDIT : Also using : Sandboxie

Good Config, you can add a DNS choose one from Norton, Clearcloud or Comodo.

Add hardening EMET (Enhance Mitigation Experience Toolkit)

Hey :D

You can add Sandboxie or BufferZone Pro (Virtualization Software ) to your security configuration....Apart from that it's very good.
I'm already using Sandboxie(forgot to mention) but to be fair I'm only using it when I do some risky surfing..You know porn and other stuff :shy:

One question : Is this BufferZone Pro better than Sandboxie?
I've never tried Bufferzone Pro.

Well cannot tell but on this link, watch the review of bufferzone pro.

Try them both out and see which one you like the best. NIS set to aggressive will keep you just fine without a sandbox. Kept me secure for almost 2 years.

I will set Norton to aggressive but I won't get any FP's right?
I will take a look at this topic also - http://malwaretips.com/Thread-BufferZone-Pro-Free
You are great guys.

Any security suite set to aggressive will give false positives.

You should use it whenever you browse the internet.
Bufferzone pro has automatic sandboxing unlike Sandboxie free. (Both are free)

Sweet,I will try BufferZone Pro for sure.
I'm going to watch the BufferZone video that you've made guys and comment.

As on demand-scanner i would I add SAS(Superantispyware) and CCE(Comodo cleaning essentials)

What Malwarebytes doesn't find SAS does and CCE has switch kill which is good.

I agree that with NIS 2011 set to aggressive and adding SAS as another on demand scanning tool and maybe WOT w/Firefox as a browser warning tool (Norton Safe Web is not compatible with Firefox 4 at this time) you are set my friend.

Any disk imaging? This is probably the only thing missing.

If you have Western Digital hdd on your system i recommend:
Acronis for Western Digital HDDs Link:
Free, fast, great interface, but it will only work on systems with a WD HDD.

Another good free option is Paragon Backup & Recovery 2011 (Advanced) Free Link:
Not as fast and as good looking as Acronis but it gets the job done. (When you backup a partition also select to backup the MBR)

The best option is to backup to an external HDD. If you find the process too slow or you don't have an external HDD large enough you could create a separate partition for Windows and essential programs and put everything else (games, movies and other large files you might have) on a second one. Imaging just your Windows partition + MBR will cover almost all problems malware can cause.

This way, even of you get infected, you can restore your Windows to a perfectly working state in a matter of minutes.

I currently use Acronis Free WD edition to image my system partition at least once a week. The process takes about 8-10 min. and I can use the system while Acronis is imaging my drive. Restoring takes a little bit more and can't be performed while using Windows but it takes way less than formatting+re-installing Windows, drivers, apps or dis-infecting the system.

a free rollback software is must if you wanna save time :) Comodo Time Machine 2.9beta is very good choice but it only works on HDD without RAID on and you have to select which partition you want to save; you will be able to go to a time when the computer worked but keep in mind that files that were created after the snapshots will be away so make snapshot of the current bad state and the restore the file that are important are in this bad state.

If you wanna see how it looks like look at my blog; I have some pics there :)

PM me if you want to try CTM.

I tried CTM in the past, it was fine for a couple of weeks until something went wrong... I waited for a new version but when it came out I wasn't able to install it. So I decided to wait until they release a stable version. I'm sure they'll get it right in the end and when they do it will be a wonderful product. For the moment the above method is what works for me for 3 reasons:
  • Reliability/Stability - I care about stability more than everything else, having to deal with bugs is worst than getting infected.
  • Backups on external HDD - In case my internal HDD breaks, I can still recover data.
  • No slowdowns - Acronis does have 3 processes running with a RAM usage around 5 MB, but that's something I can live with.

A roll back is worthless when your HDD failures. Having a clean system stored on an external HDD is your best defense against malware and hardware failures.

no rollback software can fix hardware prolems... of what I have seen rollback are done so that no trace of malicious activity remains when you rollback so I think rollback software is something that can save you.

I "heartily" agree Re: Disk Imaging... brings real piece of mind... I've only used once but worth its weight in gold when 'scorched earth' is only way out...
