With 8 gigs ram and running windows 10 pro, what is the best setting for virtual memory? Windows puts it at 512mb, it recommends 1919mb ,I would go higher.I have a dual core pentium processorrunning at 3.2.THks
As a general rule, the size of the swap file is 1.5 times compared to RAM memory. So, with 4 GB of RAM, the limit of the swap file will be 6144 MB (1024 x 4 x 1.5).
With 8 GB of RAM, in your case, you could agree to turn off the swap file, if you do not use hibernation.

Latest windows os is pretty smart in memory management and increasing virtual memory manually will not improve system performance. Let windows handle that for you.

Set this recommended amount as your "MINIMUM" and then chose an amount for the "Maximum".
With 8GB of Ram, your Maximum should be at least if not more then 4096 "4gb" for 64 bit system, and 2048 "2gb" for a 32 bit system.
Indeed 12 GB is too much, that is why you may disable the swap, I tried time ago and no BSOD, it is strange you got it, but it can happen.
At this point I also would like to suggest the default settings.
