20H2 is official and comes with the new Microsoft Edge pre-installed.

What you need to know
  • Windows 10 version 20H2 is the next update.
  • It'll be launching in the second half of 2020.
  • Will be the first version of Windows to have the new Edge preinstalled.

I whish they do it for 2004 but sadly but
No, it doesn't work like that. Microsoft favours the slow-pokes who refuse to switch to new Edge, so changes take up to a year or more before they are implemented, forced or otherwise.
Only recently has Microsoft stopped Windows 10 32-bit for OEM, for newer devices. Apple accomplished this a years ago (ie. 64-bit only and APFS).

Got the new Windows in updates today. Failed to install. Tried it again. Failed to install a second time. I'll wait a few days and give it another try. Not in any rush. That seems to be the rule with MS. One good upgrade, followed by one with problems.

Hello Windows Insiders!
We are continuing to prepare the Windows 10 October 2020 Update (version 20H2) to be ready for release. Today, we are releasing Build 19042.508 (KB4571756) to Windows Insiders in the Release Preview Channel. We believe that Build 19042.508 is the final build and still plan on continuing to improve the overall experience of the October 2020 Update on customers’ PCs as part of our normal servicing cadence.
Please note that the October 2020 Update will be offered to Insiders in the Release Preview Channel via our “seeker” experience in Windows Update at first. This means Insiders will need to go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and choose to download and install 20H2. Once an Insider updates their PC to the October 2020 Update, they will continue to automatically receive new servicing updates through Windows Update (like the monthly update process).
We are also beginning to roll out the October 2020 Update automatically for Insiders who are in the Beta Channel. For Insiders who had not previously chosen to install the October 2020 Update previously – they will be automatically offered it via Windows Update.

And how to get it now if you dare... :
Disclaimer:
The instructions outlined above are one way to get early access to the final version of Windows 10. However, you should consider that updates in the Release Preview Channel can cause issues during and after the installation. If you want to minimize the chances of running into problems, you should skip these steps and wait until you receive the feature update automatically.

Or you could just install 20H2 Enablement Package, if you want to avoid the hassle with the Insider account. 🙃

I've been running build 19042.508 for a while, it's very nice, nearly like 1909 in its late stages.

Of course that's no guarantee whatsoever, either as a release or a release preview. But it's been very efficient and clean-running on here.

I've quite forgotten v. 2004, thank you.

I also think 20H2 build 19042.508 is excellent, had it for about a week and it seems bug free. It also provided an important update to my AMD Radeon driver which hasn't been done for years. I could be wrong, but even my battery runtime seems slightly longer.

What’s New in Windows 10’s October 2020 Update (20H2):
Windows 10’s October 2020 Update, also known as the 20H2 update, is coming soon. This update is focused on bug and performance fixes, but it has some larger changes—like the removal of the System Control Panel.

This article is up-to-date with the latest changes as of Windows 10 Insider build 19042.508, which Microsoft released to the Release Preview channel on September 18, 2020.

There’s Not a Lot New, and That’s Big News!

Windows 10 October 2020 Update review: Subtle, but necessary:
UI enhancements, a new browser, and more. Here's our review.
Conclusion
Those are all the notable changes coming in the Windows 10 October 2020 Update. It's a minor one, for sure. The UI improvements are welcomed and hopefully a sign of things to come. Windows 10 is in dire need of a refresh, and perhaps we will see that happen in 2021.

The Windows 10 October 2020 Update is scheduled for a October rollout, and if you're running version 2004, it'll be a simple patch that won't take long to install. I recommend updating when possible, as it's really designed to make Windows look and feel better. The big changes to tablet mode can be reverted if you don't like them, so little reason to not update.

If you want Edge legacy back you need to do is to open the Registry Editor and navigate to the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate\ClientState\{56EB18F8-B008-4CBD-B6D2-8C97FE7E9062} Look for a key called BrowserReplacement and delete it.

You have to repeat it every time when the Edge chromium get updated.

But why should you want that, IMO the new Edge is so much better?

The legacy Edge can be useful as a secure banking browser. It runs in AppContainer and is very rarely attacked. Furthermore, it is protected by default by some strong anti-exploit mitigations.

The legacy Edge can be used alongside Edge Chromium. The correct way of restoring legacy Edge after it is replaced by Chromium Edge is slightly more complicated:

First it is necessary to allow Microsoft Edge Side by Side browser experience. This can be done by applying the reg tweak:
"Setting this policy will set the following Registry Key to '00000001':

  • Key: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate
  • Value Name: Allowsxs
  • Value Type: REG_DWORD
  • Value Data: 00000001
"
But, this will not recover the Legacy Edge shortcut. The shortcut can be recovered as follows:
  1. Press WIN+R keys together to launch RUN dialog box.
  2. Now type shell:appsfolder in RUN dialog box and press Enter key.
  3. It'll open Applications folder in File Explorer. Look for old Microsoft Edge application having old White icon.
    enter image description here

Use right-click on this icon and choose the option to create the shortcut on the Desktop or pin the shortcut to the taskbar (or start menu).
